Am I in over my head? '70 2 door from scratch
Re: Am I in over my head? '70 2 door from scratch
I used a Frostfighter kit to overlay my original traces on my '73. They were all too corroded to carry any current. I spoke with one of the engineers at the company directly for recommendations on what I planned to do and the best approach. He was extremely helpful and courteous, calling me back when he wasn't immediately available.
I think my kit was 9 lines and with the original being 11. I wanted to keep the input and output wires on the original sides of the car, and many of the kits have these on the same side. The appearance was decent from the outside as I put the new lines right over the old (with some waviness when I didn't get them perfect).
I can provide a part number if anyone wants it.

My part number for the whole kit was:
1212-3747 Clear View II Defroster, 12 Volt, Complete
It came with wiring harness, dash button and the module that controls it all. Pretty impressive for $99 USD.

Re: Am I in over my head? '70 2 door from scratch
My "Glass Guy" came by today and the front and rear glass is now in...
Having quite the ordeal with Datsport for my rear quarter window seals...
When I went to install the frame to body seals, I realized they had sent me two left / driver's side ones rather than one left and one right. They agreed to correct this but sent me the rear quarter window seal for a four door. They agreed to correct that and the new seal arrived today, but it is the frame to glass seal rather than the frame to body - doh! I feel bad as I know the shipping is expensive. Hope to get the new seal in a couple of weeks and get my rear quarter windows in.

Re: Am I in over my head? '70 2 door from scratch
Chipping away at lots of things...
Only recently realized that I didn't have a handbrake.. thankfully, I was able to source one and cleaned it up and got it installed.
It installed nicely but then I discovered that I needed to preinstall the cable and that was way easier to do with the handbrake out of the car. Oh well, it seems like everything needs to go in and out a few times!
I put 6 mil poly in under my door panels and used some 3M spray adhesive to have it stick where I wanted and then fitted the panel, handles, door pull etc.
I also fitted the rear seatbelts
And I ran some of the wiring for the rear speakers and the dome light...more still has to be done, but happy to figure out the path.

Fantastic progress! The glass is such a big step, I think!
Your C pillar vents look nice. I'm too chicken to put mine in! The thought of cutting my vinyl gives me rickets. Well, not literally, but you get it.
Where did you source your handbrake cable? I have the entire assembly, minus the cable so I need one.

Here is the front cable. There are pairs of the rears on eBay as well.

Rush, when I did my cable I could not figure out how to re-dimple the housing so I used set screws: https://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.p ... 93#p280593

Re: Am I in over my head? '70 2 door from scratch
A 10 day vacation to Mexico has slowed my progress a bit... But I am making up for lost time now.
More parts arrived just as I got back from my vacation. My Classic Air Heating and cooling unit showed up (ordered through GAS Classics). The unit looks great and was really well packaged with clear instructions. I've got to make more progress on wiring my dash before I can really trial fit and see where mounts, etc. will go. This will also impact placement of several other things that need to find a home, hopefully under my dash. The ECU, the power steering control unit and the Classic Air control unit.
Don at DP Racing has been great to work with. He has been working on rear a rear brake setup that works directly with the Apex rear end setup. Looking forward to getting this all installed.
I've started to put on my gutter trim / stainless several times but always felt a little unsure that I was doing it correctly. I tackled it last night and was pretty once it started moving along. Looks great now!
I've been working on placement and running of my fuel lines and found a good spot for my inline fuel filter.
I decided to go with AN fittings and braided lines at the end of the hard lines. I haven't used these fittings before, but found a good Youtube video and my first connections went pretty smoothly.

Looks great! What type of hard line and AN hose are you using, and brand of fittings? I'm using some AN line on another project and there are so many different options. I ended up getting some fittings and ptfe hose from Racetronix, they look like nice parts, but I haven't assembled them yet.

I went with Performance World for the AN hose and fittings based on a friend's recommendation... Not sure if the actual supplier may be someone available in the US as well but these guys are a Canadian reseller...cwd240z wrote: ↑14 Feb 2024 07:03 Looks great! The hardline is a copper nickel blend. It is really easy to work with which is nice given my skill / experience level doing tricky bends etc is kind of limited. This makes it much easier to look half decent.
