I know some of you locals know or know of Dave and his racing connection with Specialty Engineering so I will leave it at that and not be too wordy for a change.
Dave Humphrey 1960 – 2020
Dave tossed his HL510 into Turn 4, ahead of me at Mission Raceway, carrying a long, drifting slide to Turn 5, snapping the car back for the right turn, leaving me in the dust and two, solid black tire marks, marking his path.
I chased him at Westwood, where the two of us dropped into the 15’s, a notable time, where he promptly showed me his impeccable driving skills.
Sadly, with Dave’s passing on Thursday night, we lost a friend, a businessman, a husband, a father, and, a consummate racer, after a short battle with lung cancer.
I last saw Dave back in the summer, with his new McLaren, looking forward to more track time at Area 27, after retiring from GT3 racing some years ago.
That he is gone so quickly has all of us from Specialty Engineering in total shock and we can only send our condolences to his wife, Stephanie, and his two daughters.
I hope he is out there on the Great Rolling Dyno, grabbing top gear, with a HUGE smile on his face!
Rest in Peace Dave

Re: Dave Humphrey 1960 - 2020
So sorry to hear this Keith, that's just too young!
I recall seeing a number of race results where Dave would be next to, or within a couple positions of Colin, amazing talent.
Best regards.

Re: Dave Humphrey 1960 - 2020
yes is a sad week- GT3 got hit hard- Dave Bockman also passed away this week-the day before Dave H. he was a Mazda GT3 guy who ran a few nasport races and was at all the events in portland-
i have raced with both Collin and Dave a lot in the US-- for a few years after i "graduated" to GT3 from my GT4 510 .. i remember the one weekend where Dave beat Collin at Portland--he was ecstatic. I dont think he ever had finished in front before.
there was a series for GT3 on the westcoast- Called Nasport-- Collin won virtually every race and we had our own tech- our own run group- thats since spoiled me for all other racing - we had a social every weekend-- it was a lot of travelling but it was also so cool to see 16 or so cars so close together . - this was all before Collin went to any runoffs-- it was no suprise to anyone here that he was fast-- it was just a suprise to those on the east coast..
- i think it was considered semi_pro. the top 6 qualifiers were inverted and that usually meant collin started 6th and had to pass 5 to get back front.. i saw a lot of the back of both of those cars
i told my wife yesterday she was shocked as well- as she went to every race weekend with me and knew both.. our condolences to the family
