Re: moar good videos :P
you always say that you are studying... the question is what are you studying
Re: moar good videos :P
Damn Aron, you always ask the hard questions.
Ask and ye shall receive. I study brain and cognition-related neuropsych. I suppose the reason I don't normally talk about it is because some of it is far too hard to explain if a person doesn't have the background in this stuff. It really is a different language and framework for understanding things (and people). My easy out is to play it all down by tell the joke that most people want to hear "oh, I dunno, I just study a bunch of random stuff, then I play with lego robots."
Here are some of the readings for one of my courses. This is about 1/2 of them for the one course. There are three more courses; if you'd like some of those papers too let me know.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayesian_inference (this is a bit of background to bring you up to speed)
http://norvig.com/chomsky.html (chomsky is better known for his politics, but his academic foundation is his earlier linguistics work that posited a theory for transformational grammar)
http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/6089
http://mit.dspace.org/handle/1721.1/5782
http://odohertylab.org/Publications/Tri ... Nature.pdf
http://www.csri.utoronto.ca/~hinton/absps/optimal.pdf (this one is tough going in particular)
http://www.neiltheise.com/pdfs/fall09_01-nyas_04410.pdf
http://www.neiltheise.com/pdfs/BCMD-complexity.pdf
In the end, only kindness matter. Most people see a tweaker and scorn the person; I see a person whose situation has probably been so miserable that they have been driven to wash themselves away from their misery on such a consistent basis that they have overstimulated their SNpc region to such an extend that their Nucleus Acumbens has been forced into a ⌂FOSB protein mRNA transcription cycle that has caused an irreversible dendritic overgrowth. Nature, nurture, and epigenetic expressions/tendencies, all rolled into one big social problem that no one wants to deal with. "it is the tweakers own fault for being a tweaker," or, our current society does not address the needs of most members. Is this a top-down problem, or a bottom-up problem where the competition merely creates fallout as the 2-3% system noise that is needed for any successful dynamic system to remain vital? Are these people part of the 2-3% fallout from unsuccessful change in the average?
You know the joke - I will probably become a starbucks coffee-server who moonlights by fixing rusty old Datsuns. :S
What ever makes you happy, right?

I've seen this video before - it combines my two favorite "hobbies"; 510's and steam trains.

Wangan Midnight with english subtitles, one hour and forty minutes long but a great movie.
The S30 'Devil Z' is the star car but there is plenty of others with fantastic camera work. Full screen in 720p - Enjoy!
