Which Rear Camber And Toe Product?

Post by Nerius »

Hi all,

I'm looking at rear control arm adjusters but there are a couple of options. I have a new set of poly urethane bushing laying around, and I might want to use them.
However, I don't know which one would be "best". My car is not that low, but I do want to hit some autocross in the future, or a track day once in a while.

Of course the well known Futofab/Byron one:
https://www.futofab.com/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=22

The Datsport one:
https://www.datsport.com/products/ark1618

And the Maddat one:
https://www.maddat.com.au/products/dats ... er-diy-kit

I've tried to search around, but I'm afraid this site is being a bit slow lately.

Cheers.

I have the Datsport on my race car, and have contemplated the Byron brackets for my street car. One thing different in my understanding is the Byron brackets and probably the Maddat version only provide adjustment on the inner, the outer remains stock bracket. Pros/cons of this are not something I feel qualified to comment on at this point.

I have not made any large adjustment on the Datsport kit on my race car, but this winter I intend to evaluate my alignment settings and make sure they are correct, so may have more knowledge of it in the future. i have only so far checked the bolts for tightness.

With all respect, none of them. Unless you go spherical/uni-balls. Ask ten people, how many different opinions do you think you get?
And if you still want to go this route, at least read DQ vol.2 issue 3 first.
When i built one of my cars 3-decades ago i used eccentric poly bushing in the trailing arms. That helped on a car with a stance like yours.
IMHO spend your time on fine tune your springs and shocks, at the same time learn to drive the car at it's max potensial.
What would the reaction be at the annual tech inspection with a cut and welded crossmember?
WTF! we cut the license plates and weld the pink slip in a safe! (the north American guys wont understand the reason for this joke)

Thanks for the advice BEO. I just don't like the sudden extra rotation when taking long turns on the highway, that's why I'm checking the options.

I am no expert, far from it, but it sounds like you describing oversteer?
And that was my point, i think you handle over or understeer best with spring rates.
When not lowering so much the suspension is still fine, not perfect but still fine. Perhaps a little slitting just to find a camber and toe you like/want.
I use to be lucky with my tuning with springs, a neutral car with practically no over or understeer.
Perfectly a light sliding on all four wheels through the bends if pushed hard enough.

As I have followed this thread for awhile, I thought I would chime in.

If what it sounds like you are describing is..."Oversteer"...that is the problem with basically stock suspension. As the suspension travels due to the design, the arc of travel has the wheel toe out, which then basically STEERS the car...hence oversteer.

With our adjustable brackets, I have the FIRST permutation LONG before they became the flavour of the day,

you NEED to run some rear TOE IN!!!!!! I have STOCK outer bushings and the adjustable brackets we made in 1983/84, for camber and toe.

Re-read in the "suspension" thread, my posts.

I have had ZERO problems with the stock outer bushing, which are now 51 years old, used for serious racing and canyon carving since 1983/84.

Gents, thanks for your feedback. It's all very valuable and gives me a starting point for a game plan.

I did exactly what Grand Mast Keith said on my rigs and it was night and day difference. On our endurance car we ran it to Keith's specs. Since the car only had 125WHP it didn't need quit as much toe in as needed on my turbo autoX rigs. It was easy to adjust the endurance car because I felt what it should feel like and could take it for test day laps and know if felt better or worse. Worse is so scary at speeds! We go into 3 corners on our favorite track at 100mph!! I don't think it which kit you get matters.

As a side note I would like to try the spherical A arm kit some day. Just to see what it feels like in our racecar.
