New Member Introduction - 69 510 Project

Post by DatsReallyBad »

Hi All,
Looking forward to participating on this forum. I recently found a 69 510 in southern NM that has been parked since 1997. Right now I'm in the planning and research phase, looking to build a fun street car with occasional track days. I previously restored a 521 and am excited to have the 510 I always wanted. The plan is to have this one for a long time, so I'm looking to do it right. Thanks to the hosts for what looks like a great forum; I'm requesting acceptance.

Wow, Welcome to the site! That looks like a very good and solid project, looks to have most parts. More pictures...interior..engine, etc.

is there much rust that has perforated the body?

Nice looking car to start with. Watch out when ordering or buying parts. The 69 is a bit of a unicorn and many things from the 68 or the 70+ aren't the same. It's not that you can't make them work, they just don't drop in.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

I agree with funwithmonkeys... lots of unique bits on the '69s that can be very hard to find, but they are unique and look great. Lots of the exterior features are called out in my build thread.

Thanks fellas for the kind words and heads up about unicorn parts. Owen, I'll check out your thread. The floors are pretty much gone. Here's a few rust pics.

That looks like quite the adventure! If you have the metal working skills, this will be a rewarding project.

I know a guy, and I'm ready to learn. Really looking forward to it. I have the time to take it slow, but will try to share as I go.
