You were smart/fortunate to buy a Datsun in such good condition!
Re: how do you get a steering box?
Had my steering box reconditioned with new bearings and seals etc for $200 AUD. No more steering box leaks and feels good.

Pat at Benchworks Steering in Scottsdale, AZ says they can do a rebuild for about $240 -- "This cost covers build and machine labor, bearings, bushings and seals, painted ready to install."

Re: how do you get a steering box?
maybe an obvious question...where is the the drain plug on the steering box. I adjusted mine and it feels better, but I want to change the fluid. Is it on the bottom of the box and I just cant feel it/see it??? Thank you for the help.

PS if the "drain plug" is on the top of the box what would be my best method of removing the fluid?

Re: how do you get a steering box?
Suction pump, or the hose-and-bellows type pump. But that's only if you have oil. Some boxes I've seen are packed with grease.cjr198car wrote:PS if the "drain plug" is on the top of the box what would be my best method of removing the fluid?

Re: how do you get a steering box?
So, I would find out if it has oil or grease in it first..either way, depending on how crappy the grease may look, you are either going to have to drain the old oil out, or, dismantle the box to clean the crappy grease out of it. I have never seen nor heard of anyone putting grease in the thing, but....there is always a first..according to OK.

Re: how do you get a steering box?
Great info.
I am finally going to adjust mine and change fluid tomorrow (or this weekend.)
Thanks bert for providing the pertinent adjusting info & steps.
The only other place I remember seeing the instructions was in my dad's OOOOLD intereurope service manual, and it was more vague.
