Morning World,

WOW...Sept 30th, where has the year gone? For me it just seems to have vaporized, I was always busy, but, with the fire season and then smoke into the mountains, never got out for a real hike or camping, as areas got shut down. This is the first year, pretty much since the 510 club came into existence, that summer or afall drive has not happened. Maybe others did....? And...two summers of not driving my 510, you have no idea how weird that feels. Dropped into the shop yesterday and seeing MY 510 there has a certain air of unreality to it.

So, with that being said...what is wrong with the picture of the pistons?

1'st one to identify the issue wins an all expense paid trip to Spuzzum, B.C., in January, to watch the Icicle Festival.

Andy was working on my cylinder head, with the new exhaust seats in. As the new seat has a Backside edge to it, Andy grinds and smooths that area for good flow.

Tracey has cleaned and painted a few bits, looking very good.

And the WINNER is....JASON K !!!!!!

Your prize package is on it's way, including Arctic parkas, seal meat, a rusting 30.30 carbine, snow goggles
and enough fuel to get you there...the way back is your problem!

2 new pistons a few weeks away..oh well, not like I was going anywhere in October.

Oh Well, not like I'm going anywhere. I'm sure my brother-in-law is happy for the garage space.

I just spent a week on Denman island, NO TV, beyond quiet, no cell phones, zip for any technology for the most part...and best part...just out of the madness that is Vancouver and environs now.

They are nice, latest piston ring technology too, Andy is always up on the latest NASCAR, etc stuff.

Amazing who he talks to in the U.S..

Keith, would be great to go far enough away I didn’t know how to get back, Denman sounds like a nice break, way to busy here these days.

Andy has always kept up on the latest & greatest, at least that’s the impression I have over the years.

Stopped by the shop yesterday to see what progress was going on.

Pistons being shipped today, so will be a week away or so. Andy working on my valve train, new Isky valve springs. Also as valves sit differently, he has to mill 0.050" off a few of the spring retainers to keep the rockers from hitting the lip. My rockers were ok so no issues there, same with my camshaft.

I need to bring my air cleaner and pipe assembly home next trip, as the methanol when it leaked came out through the air cleaner, so it would have washed the oil from it. I also have some new "barb" fittings for the low/high sprayers, to make pulling hoses off much easier.

Engine update Oct. 27

Pistons arrived and checked out ok!

The cir-clip that comes with the pistons is super hard spring steel, so, Andy made a special tool ( as he did for Jamie's motor), to install the clip. Yesterday Andy buttoned the engine up.

Valve train is all setup, one helicoil was required in one of the cam towers.

Compression will be up a bit, so will have to see how that goes with my current boost level and jetting. That larger turbine housing will change some things too, so a bit apprehensive about that.

Transmission was good, no issues, I have never been hard on power trains. New seals and it's good to go.

Going to pop by on Saturday and then plan a few hours next week to help work on it, for wherever it is at.

Brought my air cleaner/spray assembly home to clean and re-oil air filter and install new hose fittings that I found at NAPA.

Great progress Keith. I'm sure you can't wait for spring to get it all going again.

Yes, it will be fun with a new motor, sure missed these last two summers.

Here are some pictures from yesterday, as the Comp pan got put in place. That windage tray was made by a local Vancouver fellow, it has been in my motors since 1984. It has suffered a few cracks from vibration, which Andy has welded up over time.

Should be good for another 20 years.

Got the distributor in and timed the motor. Also took oil pump apart and was just fine, nothing gone through it, nor wear.

Andy was painting my exhaust manifold with high heat paint when I got there. He will have to do a test fit of exhaust to manifolds to make sure it is square relative to the turbine housing flange.

I washed out my air filter and will re-oil today once it has dried. Also will install those 2 fittings for the meth spray on the air intake pipe.
