3D Printing Thread - Look What I 3D Printed
Ratsun has a 3D printing thread, I think the realm needs one too.
I needed heater defrost tubes for my coupe and 2 68's. So I borrowed a pair from Spreadburry and scanned them. I redrew them in Solidworks and shortened them for ease of installation. They are clocked slightly different but it's almost exactly the same!

I edited the title, now this is the 3D Printing Thread
Re: 3D Printing Thread - Look What I 3D Printed
I better ad the next best item I've made on the printer. I mean since it's a thread all about cool 3D printed parts. It's a 521 glove box insert. There are made of paper so it's hard to find a good one. This one will outlast us all.
the printer uses white nylon which we dye black. I totally forgot to add the notch for the latch on the first one! haha.

That's amazing. Can you share the print files?

A suggestion- when you create parts like this, you should also add what material type was used. For example, the top parts need flexibility you can detail what you used to achieve that.
I'm no 3D printing expert, but I have worked with a co-worker who has one and he has made a couple things for me, including the plastic end pieces that insert in the front of the outer belt moldings on what I believe are the early style (later versions of which I have many, are roll-formed).

I think it's PA12 but I could be wrong, not much flex at all.

Anyone interested in 3d printed AM (stock) radio nobs? Just gauging interest at this point.
Re: 3D Printing Thread - Look What I 3D Printed
Other way around! The rolled ends were early production, the straight cut ends with plastic caps were later production. Datsun did this to the 510 waist trim (that you are working on), the hood front trim, the eyebrows & the rocker moulding. People have been looking for the rocker moulding caps, but like anything 3D printed, you need a good USED (or better yet NOS) to scan. Datsun also did this to Z car trim. I'm GUESSING, but I think Datsun re-tooled in the early 1980's, cuz the white 1973 510 I got out of Saginaw had quite a few NEW trim parts installed when Brian "restored" the car. One eyebrow is early rolled ends, the other is later plastic capped ends!iceman510 wrote: ↑08 May 2023 05:30 A suggestion- when you create parts like this, you should also add what material type was used. I get asked at least 3-4 times a year for OEM radio knobs, but I rarely have. Not much of parts like these will make you lots of mulla, but once the file is perfected, all you do is list them on the forums & maybe on eBay & ship them when ordered! Could be great beer money!loungin112 wrote: ↑15 May 2023 22:04 Anyone interested in 3d printed AM (stock) radio nobs? Just gauging interest at this point.
We have been talking about plastic parts for later Jaguar cars at my new job recently, cuz there are quite a few (small) parts that are discontinued & very hard to find good USED, cuz they all cracked/broke. I pitched seeing if Jake Anderson on Ratsun could make some parts for us, but the boss has not committed to anything yet!

Re: 3D Printing Thread - Look What I 3D Printed
Another part I get asked for often is the 70-73 510 UPPER antenna mount & matching rubber gasket. The tricky part is finding an ORIGINAL one to copy & once made, being clear that it is for the ORIGINAL antenna with the chrome pot metal base (at the bottom). There were at least 3-4 other antenna's made for the 70-73 510's, likely in the aftermarket. These had a different lower base & upper mount, both of which were longer, thus made the antenna stick out from the A pillar a little more. If you mix & match the upper & lower mounts, the antenna will NOT follow the A pillar parallel...............many won't care, but many will want it right!

Interesting. I guess I will use the capped end moldings on the 73.yenpit wrote: ↑19 Jul 2023 09:52

I also have a mixed set of eyebrow molding parts. We'll have to coordinate and see if we have opposite sides and we could trade to make matching sets.

I don't think I have any good eyebrows............most are dinged or dented. If you have good matched pairs, they are pretty good money these days!!iceman510 wrote: ↑20 Jul 2023 06:51Interesting. I guess I will use the capped end moldings on the 73.yenpit wrote: ↑19 Jul 2023 09:52
