Nissan Comp Oil Pan on an L20B - Any Modifications Needed?

Post by RobertMoylan »

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the Nissan Comp oil pan (with crank scraper) needs to be modified to clear the additional stroke of an L20B? Since the L20B stroke is 8mm longer than an L18, I just wanted to ensure the crank scraper didn't need to be adjusted to ensure it doesn't contact the crank.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You should always check things like that before you start the motor.

It was designed for a L16/L18. A Z22 crank/rods will contact the scrapers unless you grind them and fiddle with it. The L20B is somewhere between those two.

"THERE IS NO STATED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY DUE TO THE UNUSUAL STRESSES PLACED ON RACING/HIGH PERFORMANCE STREET PARTS AND BECAUSE WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER HOW THEY ARE USED OR INSTALLED." (ref: https://www.dpracing.co/)

Thanks for the reply. In case anyone finds this in the future... I texted Don over at Design Products today and he confirmed that an L20B crank will interfere with the crank scraper. He suggested bending the scraper about 8-10mm and then test fit the pan without a gasket. Rote the engine a few times to ensure nothing hits. If it hits then try bending it a few more mm and repeat the test fit process. Rinse and repeat until nirvana has been achieved.
