OCTOBERFAST 2021!

Morning World!

Paul is going to lead us, on what for me will be the last drive of the season, on October 30. The weather looks to finally clear for a few days.

The plan at this point is to meet at the HUSKY gas station at RIVER ROAD and 76th at 11:00 AM." Lets meet at the Husky station at River Rd and Ross then we will access Hwy 17 at 80th"

We then will work our way back to hwy #17, out to Fort Langley, Jiggy jog the back roads, taking in the fall colours, head down to 8th again from Bradner Road, then duplicate our route last time over to Mission, then we can all head back to our respective starting points/home.

I will let a few know who are not on this site, Alveen and Johnathan. I will let Ron know too.

I will post up tentative map soon, as well as confirmation from Paul.

Any updates on this. Weather looks good so I might throw a permit on the car and get one last drive in.

Yup, I fueled up my car today, decreased my primary fuel jet by 1/2 size, topped up the tires, made sure it fired up, which it did in a blink, so good to go.

Yes, weather looks to be very nice, fall colours will be spectacular.

I plan to be at the Husky by 10:30 - 10:45.

I am missing this one. I pulled the transmission last weekend and am putting it back in this weekend with a new clutch and flywheel. My wideband sensor also decided to shit the bed to I need to replace that also.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

I don't think I am going to drive out to the Husky just to drive back. There is a Tim Hortons on 96th about 192nd in Port Kells. I think we will pick you up there. About 11:30 I'm guessing.

Don't feel bad Alveen, I was the same. Where did summer go? Snow on the passes, terrible accident on Larson Hill today, snowing, Coke was closed for most of it.

Thanks to Keith and Paul for pulling this together. It was a fun drive although I don't know how they discover these roads. Unfortunately my trip got cut short about the halfway point because of a lousy railroad crossing and a low hanging exhaust clamp. Was kind of a loud ride home.
I think it's off the road for the winter now and take care of a few issues.

Morning World!

Wow, what a nice way to finish what drive season we had this summer. Paul lead us on a nice route from the Husky Station out through Fort Langley, running the back roads through the wonderful fall colours, then back up and across the Fraser Highway and retracing our path through the southern Fraser Valley and out through Sardis.

I must admit I hate the Cultus lake turn to #1, that F'n traffic is gridlocked through there. Glad it was nice and cool as water temp stayed really low.

Johnathan took us up a Knox Hillclimb like road as a side diversion that was really cool. Super steep and major hairpins. Cliff (CP) was ahead of me and showered me with fuel as he did left turns. His vented cap sure did it's job venting fuel. Turned out also, on those bloody railway crossing, that have been CRAP for way too many years, he snagged his exhaust clamp, which opened up the exhaust for a leak.

We stopped in Sardis for fuel and food for some, then headed out #1, at a fairly blistering pace, to the Agassiz exit! We got held up for a few minutes at a traffic block due to a car having sheared a power pole off. That would not have been a fun ride.

Fall colours were gorgeous along # 7 on the way back to Mission, traffic was really very good. We had a few spots where we could zip along at a nice cornering pace, finally having gotten some heat into my tires. When I left the garage in the morning the tires felt like they were square in the cold, 6C temperature. Even my water temp was likely a bit too cold, Paul even showing me he had blocked off 3/4 of his radiator.

A traffic light in Mission held us up for far too long for me, just reality of the time of day and the general traffic load of people heading home just like us. Alveen, Jon and I headed back over the Mission Bridge, dropping back down to Vye Road again and then just had a nice, scenic, leisurely cruise back on Zero Avenue and home. At the tail end of ZERO we came over the crest of the final hill and greeted an RCMP woman, who looked at me and maybe seemed confused as to what she was seeing and should do. She did not have the laser gun and was on her personal radio. For sure I was over the silly slow 50 KPH, was at 66.

Anyhow, we all survived the day, even with Paul finding his alternator was not charging, but stopped on the way home and it was just the tensioner had backed off. I hope Cliff suffered no major damage to his pipe, lets us know Cliff.

That is a season wrap for me, I did 281 Km that day, got great fuel economy with the main fuel jet down-sized by 1/2 jet size. Something changed when I did that carb service back in the summer..what I can't figure out. It was running rich, and now with the smaller jet, runs kinda where it should, yet, the high speed light throttle at 130 KMH gives me a quite high exhaust temp, touching 1,500 F.. I think for next summer I will run with this, as most of our trips are basically on the primary , so I may re-richen the secondary fuel for WOT.

I rolled over to Specialty on Sunday, washed the car, checked that no leaves and debris where in the radiator and coolers and had a nice drive back, jamming the car again into it's spot in the garage. I will get it up onto the jack stands this week.

I only drove the car for 16 hours running time this past season, 534 miles total, I think the lowest ever. We did talk about where has the 510 World gone? The past few years it has just been this group out, I know Byron was busy, but, think of the dozen or so cars we used to get out. Covid has not helped, that is for sure. I just look at how quiet the Realm is, for any local stuff for the most part.

Thanks to all that came along, that was fun.
