Wife’s not happy

Post by Wilse »

Hi all. Been lurking for a while but 1st build post. I’m a 45 year old Aussie who has a massive Datsun problem.. I’ve owned a few sedans in my earlier years, then bought a wagon about 15 years ago and put an SR in it. Then I got The bug that said I need a Coupe! So, last year I got in contact with Craig Ford, who put me in contact with James Johnson. Long and short of it I imported one of his Coupe’s. And now the fun begins...

We’d love to see a photo, if you resize the picture low 250kb, you can post directly on the site here. Or host the photo elsewhere amd post a link.
Look forward to it.

I think I’ve sorted the image issue now.. I’m very technologically challenged.!
Anyways, it Was imported from James in the condition in the 1st pic. Then started with removing sills, etc..

This will be a lot of fun. What are the future plans for it?

Plans at this stage are to have it fairly original interior, L20 with twin 45 Weber’s, battery relocated, etc. A fair bit of new metal, mostly quarters, front valance etc to keep it trouble free into the future. Not sure on paint colour yet. I would have put an SR in it, but already have that in my wagon, so thought I’d keep the L series in this one..

Here is your car in 2019 when it was still in Sendai with Craig:

Congrats on the project-- always great to see Coupes getting love.

Thanks for those Michael. I’ve loved watching your build with the Coupe. It’s giving me inspiration..
Question for you ( or anyone else in the know) does the NOS rockers that you put on yours have a “step” where the quarter panel wraps over the top of the rocker? I’ve got reproduction ones and they are just straight through?
