BaT sells another Datsun 510 - $46k US
A lot of interest in this one...
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-510-38/
Landed with taxes in Canadian $ you'd be well over $70,000.

This same car failed to see on BAT (same seller) on Feb 26, 2019 at $26,250. Best failed-auction good fortune ever.
Perhaps a little too much fast and loose free money in the hands of rich people flying around? I just heard about a low mile 2002 +/- Honda Civic selling for $50K USD, although I haven't see the auction.

going out on a limb here but its kinda incomplete isnt it> apparently im in the wrong as it takes at least TWO to bid it that high
but congrats to the seller- he won the lottery-
i saw the prev auction and didnt really expect it to go higher-
no front sway bar and stock oilpan , no airfilter - and a whopping 215s for tires with ebay flares-- and sells for $46k -- WOW
and thats some pretty extensive cleanup done in the engine bay..

I agree - it wasn't totally dialed in from my perspective and the listing wasn't the best I've seen... 78 pictures and somewhat mediocre videos. I watched the live auction and there were more than 2 bidders vying for it even after it went above $30k. As you said, a good auction result for sellers requires at least two buyers willing to compete for the win. No doubt there are buyers with money and big garages on BaT. I'm glad that 510s see some love there.cartel wrote: ↑23 Feb 2021 18:50 going out on a limb here but its kinda incomplete isnt it> apparently im in the wrong as it takes at least TWO to bid it that high

Re: BaT sells another Datsun 510 - $46k US
i kinda feel sorry for the 2 bidders - to me the lack of info doesnt inspire confidence in the quality of the car itself.
there were many comments how mint it was though.. really?
must have driven like a complete POS as it has a rear swaybar and NO front-- stock axles - likely open diff- no mention of the struts and springs used to build the suspension. and not even a rebuilt motor.. i could go on and on-- let alone the gauges that sit way to far angled up.. could definitely build that car for lots less than 46..

Re: BaT sells another Datsun 510 - $46k US
On the other hand... they had a week to ask questions and sellers on BaT who don't answer questions generally get roasted. Maybe they swooped in last minute but I'm pretty sure the guy who bought it was asking questions well in advance. He didn't like the flares or the trunk spoiler - which is going to cost him a bit to remove.
I noticed the dash gauges as well - not a pretty or functional arrangement. Makes me even happier on my decision to go with the Gilson SSS dash. Can't wait for it to arrive.

What was up with the tail lights?

isnt that cool? my guess is it had some broken studs on the chrome and this was the work around-- as it would seem odd to intentionally ruin perfect taillights to add screws thru it..
and according to a few there i must have ruined the 2 i am building by media blasting them..
media blast sure doesnt hurt the floors /wheelwells or engine bay-- i didnt blast either cars roof..

Re: BaT sells another Datsun 510 - $46k US
We ended up with the customer that bought the yellow 510 2dr last year, that sold for $41k on BAT. Everybody makes changes to built/restored cars that they buy, to personalize to taste, but that was NOT a $41k car! The paint work was pretty nice. The seats were new, but cheap junk. It was MISSING the rear seat, the heater box, the windshield wiper set up........all of which he needed re-installed for Colorado weather. The wiring under the dash was horrible. The exhaust was horrible. We had to go thru the suspension......the front springs were CUT! There are alot of really nice cars out there for sale, but buyers beware!!

1972 510 Wagon parts car

LOTS of 510 parts!

I missed that one... does not look that great in the listing in my opinion. The reserve was off at $31k but there were a couple of eager bidders and a peanut gallery of commenters egging them on. A couple of committed bidders is usually what drives prices over market in these live auctions.

They should BE committed. I imagine there's a lot of buyer's remorse down south.
