To The Mountains I Go-September Drive 2020

Post by bertvorgon »

Morning World!

As the season does wind down I thought a September drive might be a better choice this year, as we have seen in the past, October can come unglued at any time with our changing weather patterns.

Either September weekend of 12/13 or 19/20...weather window appropriate.

I would like to do an Epic drive again, putting on almost 500 miles in the day.

I entertain I am going to do the Fraser Canyon to Lytton, then hook the right on #1 and follow the mighty Thompson River to Ashcroft. From there I do the big climb up to the Highland Valley copper mine, past Logan Lake, and drop to Merritt.

Then I head to Aspen Grove and do 5A to Princeton and of course back the Hope/Princeton hwy.

Hope to Hope in this loop is about 514 Km (319 miles). And for me, an additional 246 km White Rock to Hope and back= 760 Km (472 Miles)

I suggest that in Merritt, at what is now the CLOSED rest stop, I will park and wander in past the gate and have my picnic lunch. If you have any other ideas where I might stop...fire away.

I just checked with the Chevron station in Ashcroft and they DO carry 94 octane, as does Merritt and Princeton. I will likely top up in Hope and make the run to Princeton on a tank....I might make it....

Hope to Ashcroft = 188 Km
Ashcroft to Merritt = 103.7 Km
Merritt to Princeton = 92 Km
Princeton to Hope = 133 Km

I must Plan fuel management accordingly.

I hope for some good weather, maybe some fall colours up high, and minimal traffic. I will get some G-force happening!

Here are a few teaser pictures from a past trip.

Hopefully I can make this. I may just need to find a place to camp out for the night before.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

As this site and thread are the "go-to" for information and I'm not an "app" or "smart phone" guy....nor should I be...it behooves those that KNOW this is where information is posted...and it has been for the last 17 years.....to do just that....CHECK IN OCCASIONALLY!!!

If anyone wants to contact others, GREAT!

I have sent e-mails to two people that I do have contact info for, who do not drop on here anymore, or, ever at all.

Poll.
Guys who were on the Sumerland run...
Honestly did I smoke you guys out pretty bad? I need an honest answer because there isn't time/resources to make a correction to the issue. It embarrass me, but man it's fun to drive... input requested from the 5.

Hey Byron,

No, not really...only real time was in Manning Park, on that double lane down hill passing area, when you were off the throttle for a few seconds as cars moved out of the way, and then we got on it and passed everybody, even that guy in the BMW.

Over the years I have been behind a lot worse.

Don't worry about it.

Morning World!

I hope everyone is doing ok out there!

As the long range weather looks to be good, major high pressure ridge to be over us for awhile, NEXT weekend looks to be good.

So, I entertain Saturday, September 12 will be my drive day. As this is an informal, non-sanctioned , non-corporate day in my 510 ,should anyone else show up, that would be a major co-incidence!

For years there are those that have not liked early starts, so, I plan to LEAVE the Hope Chevron at 7:30 AM.

I will make final decision next week, should weather implode, as I have seen in the past. By Thursday I should know if weather system holding.
