It sounds like it was a fun drive. I. Sorry I missed it. That is a pretty impressive top speed there Byron! Jon mentioned that your car was puffing smoke a bit when you were on it.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?

I think Jon was being kind on his comment, I went through 3 liters over that 750 KMS - that’s 3/4 of an oil change... and the reason I haven’t even on drives this past 2 years.
But it still cornered just a good!
I think I surprised Jon a few times early on - I’m sure I was close enough just following the apex of a few corners that nothing was visible forward of the cowel vent :-)

Had a fun visit, thanks to everyone who dropped by, it was great to meet all of you. I'm even more stoked to get mine on the road so I can join the next one.

Byron, here is an article on the MG Metro group B car for sale in Australia. https://www.drive.com.au/news/mcrae-mg- ... otorsport1

For a morning start that was to be later, I still had to get up at 3:30 Am.

Byron summed things up very well, the drive up was great, not much traffic, and, we could really blitz by people on the up-hill passing areas. I could feel that the tires were lacking some heat through the twisty's in Manning, but, we managed to get through there in a nice rolling, high speed parade.

Having Matt along was great, even though we really do not talk much due to the noise and ear plugs.

The Green Mountain stretch was taken with some conservative speed on the way up, relatively speaking, I had never driven that before. Lots of dips, blind corners, cyclists, and thankfully a couple of cars that pulled over for us. Having your son next to you prompts a bit of reserve in blasting through, fine if I screw up with just me in the car.

Traffic flowed ok through Penticton and before we knew it we were at Jeff's place. After a nice 3 hours visit I was chomping to get going again, NOT looking forward to the grind from Hope to Home.

I elected, for a change, to let someone else lead, so we could watch the cars from behind for a change, and, Matt could get some nice pictures. Byron took the lead and I knew it would be the blast through Green Mountain..

Sure enough, he got away and had a good run, we were held up by a few vehicles and one motorcycle pulled over the let us pass.

The Porsche Parade was just that, glad we did not come upon them, I have "dealt" with these guys before. A winged, bit of a "riced" out leader went by me but not really going for it. Maybe they had a few good rips, but in the past, it has not taken me long to leave them in the dust. They never really drive at our type of speeds, nor do the cars actually work that well in the rough, secondary road structures with bad dips hidden in the shadows.

We did a quick stop at a salvage yard not far from Bromley Rock, where a Car with a DATSUN bolder tint sat facing the highway. There we met Brad, who liked our cars and he let us wander around, checking out the 4 door Datsun 1000, and Hl510 wagon and a Pl510 wagon. Lots of good parts still on the cars, and of course an L20b in the Hl510.

After fueling up in Princeton, the next stage I always like when heading back, scenic, open road.....the Similkameen Mine hill, where my car shines with it's power. Byron knows I like to rip up there so as he passed a couple of civilian vehicles, he tossed it out of my way, with Jon on my bumper. I left them all going up the hill, I can dial any speed I want up there, so I got close to redline in 5th. That was the only time of the day that my water temp went to 175F..

As I suspected, when we got to the single lane traffic area, before the East gate of Manning, we got held up through one of the best sections to corner fast, by a truck towing a large trailer. We were done! Arg.

The cruise through the Park was just that, a Gentleman in a BMW seemed to want to stay ahead of us, so that was fine, Byron's pace was just a hair faster than all of us.

I always anticipate the down hill passing sections, as one can really do some serious speed there. I saw and heard the down shift and puff of oil from Byron's car, knowing we were ON IT! Mr. BMW tried to stay ahead but he got past his comfort zone at 160 KMH. That was the last blast as the traffic was quite heavy now and the passing zones were gone.

While I was on Byron's bumper....he seemed to hit 300 KMH...while I only hit 192 KMH...Hmmmm....

Matt checked the Internet at Hope and traffic was fine along the Fraser valley stretch...BONUS ROUND!

Jon and I peeled off at Mt Lehman and slowly chugged along 16th to home.

My car ran great, the pull up the hill had no issues with my fuel, and, it seemed to get pretty good fuel economy. Not sure if I can check the numbers, have to go through my fuel receipts.

Thanks again Jeff, and, the gang for coming out. Lets try to plan a drive in September, when the tourists are done and some cooler temps prevail..

Tomorrow I am off to Specialty to clean the car, even pulling the wheels to clean the inside of brake dust and grime, something I have not done for a few seasons now.

That sounds like an awesome drive, and I really regret missing it. I am going to move heaven and earth to make the fall run.

There’s a fall run planned???

Yes the 330 km/h is kind of funny- I’ll take that Garmon quirk!

What amazed me was that considering the heat of the day, I did t get too uncomfortable.
And with the break at the wrecker on the way back, and a few watering stops - I really annoyed it.
Amazingly my insulated water bottle stayed cool all day - considering it was on the floor behind my seat above the exhaust- I give that water bottle 2 thumbs up!
And sharing the day with my daughter was really cool. She’s going to soon have a steering wheel in her hands - that I have no doubt.

Morning World.

I agree with Byron, as much as it was hot out in the sun, the actual air temp seemed cooler. We were comfortable the whole drive.

I would like to do a September run SOMEWHERE, maybe do the Canyon to Lytton and then Lillooet, or, to Spences Bridge and do the full loop through Aspen Grove. I will NOT be doing the Sea to Sky Run with the Classic car guys this year. Lets see what shakes out as we get to the end of August.

I like this group of drivers, as we know what the person is going to do, and, know they are aware of where you are. Would be nice to have a few more cars out, as we always get so many stares, kudos, etc by people on our drives, that makes it fun too.

I waved to the Porsche gang too...no response....my competitive streak had me wanting to turn around and have some fun with the Bling guy.....

Pictures from the day, will post up some of Matt's pictures later, I'm heading to Specialty later this morning to clean car up.

I had the perfect day today...510 lit off in a heart beat, drove over to Specialty, always something cool in the shop....Steph's 510 was there on the hoist, just gleaming. Got the Mission Race breakdown and I got to tell about our trip.

I may extend an invitation to Steph to join us on a drive when she feels up to it.

My plan was to take wheels off, wash the heck out of them, get the brake dust off the inside as that stuff just eats wheels.

As I had access to compressed air, I had at the car big time, blowing out sand, gravel, bird feathers, leaves, tons of bug wreckage from every nook and cranny, then blew dust out of the seat and interior.

Stuck my head underneath, no leaks, all looked good.

After any trip like this it does pay to check the fan(s) and rad for any stone hits and I "back blow" the rad, oil cooler and inter-cooler, it is amazing how much debris comes out. Next time I have grill out I will get my small screwdriver and straighten and fins on the rad that are beat over from bugs and road bits. My fan stopped on one trip when a small stone got between the fan blade and shroud housing.

Final thing was to wash the 100 MPH bugs off the car, most came off easily as they had no real time to dry and bake on.

Nice sunny drive home in rush hour traffic, car put away till next time........
