Ok guys just got my car back from my buddys exhaust shop. Thanks for all the comments and input. I tried doing what some of you posted and it still does not work. My car is a 1970. Im not sure if the door mechanism is from a 69 or 70. But either way I tried and here I am in the same spot.. Gonna try some more today as the air is actually breathable air today here in Pleasanton CA.

Looks like I'm gonna use my dremel tool and have to cut it inside the door close to where it goes through the hole inside the door and makes contact with the striker to get the door open. Every thing I've tried doesn't work. Sheesh the most annoying shit ever.

Ugh. I should have most latch parts if you need anything.

Got the door open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank god. Unfortunately I had to use the dremel. No damage to the door or inside of the door. But the mechanism will need to be replaced.

I think the difference between early & late is the engineering of the rotating latch mechanism, cuz I have seen two different styles, but I'm thinking they are interchangeable..........?? Can you post a pic of the BACK of the latch, where the rotating latch mechanism & spring are? I likely have either way, let me know!
