A day in the life of a moderator
A day in the life of a moderator
Well, we all put effort in something - and sometimes I wish there were a better way.
The auto-spammers go 24/7, and our site is just one of many thousands that are targeted. Most spams are from the Ukraine, Russia, Asia, Africa and right here in North America. It’s a PITA to sort through, I won’t deny it. And it’s a job I do a few times a week, and there are four of us taking turns. It there is no automatic way.
Today I sorted through 115 spam posts.... so that the realm members did’t have to. But today was a good day, because we actually got two new members to the Realm - most often this is not the case.
Today I’d like welcome Moonshade and Tony 510 to the Realm This is a great source of info, and I sure hope you can take part in the community.
Welcome guys, look forward to your threads, questions and input.
Byron

Re: A day in the life of a moderator
Byron, I feel your pain. I'm not as hard pressed as in the past but 150!! We had the LOVE GURU from India selling charms, potions and spells to attract women and repel in-laws, upwards of 30 a day! This was a few years ago and the spam filters are much better now (knock on wood) Most of India must be IP blocked by now. Lately one spam every few months gets through to as far as moderator approval. Hey, keep up the good fight to keep this forum running as well as it does.

Attract women AND repel in-laws? Ever see anything that attracts NOS Datsun parts and repels rust? Now THERE’s a money maker.
Really now, I do appreciate the effort the mods put in. I know it is not trivial. Thank you.

My 710 friend just got a 510 and is having trouble getting his intro-post approved … his username is will_k

A 510 in NYC? I hope it's well parked, I had my first stolen from me there in '83.

He did say his 710 friend and I used to know a fella in NYC with a 710. In fact he took the passenger seat out and strapped an L20B in there and drove from Colorado? to home with it. Well... if that's him.

Yes, it is that Will -- who used to live in NYC and have a 710. He drove the 710 back across the country and moved to San Francisco.
I bought his 710 and painted it myself … Then I lowered it too much and sold it like this:

Been really busy lately, honestly it’s been a week since I’ve been on the realm. 146 spam emails to go through this morning. Robb Cox, you’re lucky you didn’t get cut from the new list. With a name like that, if it’s right up there with the three most common spams; fake passports, GPA cheaters and all types of porn. Usually I wouldn’t even read the post I just delete them. But for some reason I clicked on yours and you didn’t get cut. Welcome to the Realm.
I was surprised to see two more new comers to the Realm today as well. Great to have you onboard, sorry it took me a little while to get to you. We look forward to your projects, especially the one that’s involved and grandpa. There’s a pile of work on here to view, and lots of good resources both technically and in people. Glad to see the realm is still running strong in this rather odd time that we’re all going through. We look forward to your projects, especially the one that’s involving grandpa. Re: A day in the life of a moderator
Byron, I just want to say thanks for doing what you do (along with the other 3 that moderate as well). This site is by far the greatest source of 510 information on the internet. It Trumps Facebook in everything but quick responses seen by tons of people; which really just results in tons of none experienced opinions sometimes.
Once again thank you. This site has been invaluable to me owning and modding my car.
