A Decade in review!

As the end of the decade is but hours away, I thought I would post up a look back at the last 10+ years of our driving adventures.

This January, for those of us with TRUE 1973 cars, production date Jan/73, our cars turn 47 years old. I would not in a million years have ever thought I would have had a 47 year old car when I started with Datsun’s in 1969.

I too head into my 7th decade this coming year……WOW…how did that happen?

As I look back, the pictures reflect a GREAT group of people I have been privileged to know, and shared my adventures with!

I look forward to another driving season around the corner and hope to see a lot of you out for the drives and other 510 related adventures. Thanks to all that have come out over the past years and enjoyed the camaraderie and fun we have together.

Wow, we'll be called a septuagenarians this coming year.

It's bizarre, I can't wrap my brain around that yet...you too then!?

Late April. I spent all my life not thinking much about it and now my wife says that this year I can stop work finally and stay home and grow and smoke my own all day if I want, like I used to do before I had to grow up and become responsible. I remember the first time I could drive by myself and lit out driving all afternoon taking random back roads in my dad's '64 Dodge, arriving home late that evening. Being lost was the whole point. I still like long distance driving, (by myself) close to a dozen crossings to Ontario in my 620 in the 00s and 7 or 8 to Cabby. Drive 24 hours straight and sleep like the dead. Saw a wolf once in Minnesota at 2 AM with 'Hungry Like The Wolf' on the radio. Kid you not. All part to the tapestry of the roads. So life changes, and I'll have to fill it with things I like doing in my Datsun. Got to hurry though, sight is dimmer and i want to see it all.

You and I have a lot of parallels in our lives for sure. I lived to drive long distances when I got my reliable 1969 wagon, put 105,000 miles on that car in 3 years.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven on that road trip to Sonoma in 2018 to see Colin race.

Retirement lets you do whatever the hell you want, when you want.

This year I plan to hit the road in the 510 no matter what, even doing mid week trips when the traffic is so much less.

No Canby this past year so no holiday for me. I've accrued some weeks off. Thought I might road trip out to Ontario in my goon to see friends I haven't seen since 2012 or 13. It's surprisingly comfortable to sleep in. Would like to get the body work done and painted for that.
