Swamp thing, from drift car to Endure car
Swamp thing, from drift car to Endure car
Lost interest in drifting. Me and the guys at work have decided to turn the Swamp thing into an Endure car at our local track. It will most like get destroyed but we want to do it anyway. haha. Here are the old pictures and how it looks now. We will keep you updated.

it turned out okay. Same old story, should have done more cleaning in shop and should have sprayed the floor down with water. Got some dust in the paint which makes me unhappy.

Amen... no matter how much a guy cleans and sweeps, dust finds a way. Looks good man, nice work!icehouse wrote:it turned out okay. Same old story, should have done more cleaning in shop and should have sprayed the floor down with water. Got some dust in the paint which makes me unhappy.

Great progress - that’s sure a grabber colour!
So I’m curious what you planned mode of power is? I ask because you’re a huge SR-T guy, but unlike most of your past builds I don’t see the rad support modified for the IC piping.... You have me scratching my head right now. Looking forward to the surprise.

Tell me about it! Since the original plan was the hill billy racing at our local circle track we already build a L18. So we've decided since we only have 2 months to get the car track ready (safety is the hard part) we are going to just run the L series this year. As of now we only plan on running the 2 washington events. So next winter we are going to upgrade to the X-trail SR since they are now super cheap and make 280hp stock. At that time I will rework the core support and firewall (needs a pocket for the CAS, it's on the back since that SR is meant for a FWD car) We already started figuring out the trans adapter. I'd like to run the stock ECU and turbo, since the racing is endurance I'd like to keep the stock reliability. We thought about a VQ since I have one in the shop and it also makes 300hp and doesn't weigh that much more. I just really like the SR's. But who knows what time will bring.
I got him mid talking haha.

So fun!!! Well until our L20 blew up It lasted 3.5 hours. The car handled amazing! It could out corner any car there and it didn't even have front our rear sway bars. We ran out of time.... Our final alignment specs:
front toe: zero
front caster: 8.5 degrees
front camber 8 degrees
rear toe 1/4" total
rear camber 4 degrees
unbelievable through the corners. we plan on having a front bar for the next race and a NA SR20DE
Racing door to door is so much fun!!!!

Holly crap - nice air cooled block. Too much of your VW influence there my friend!
The dent in the motor mount is the icing on the cake there.
So who gets to claim they 'Built' that engine?
That is a ridicules amount of camber - are you sure that's needed. I'm thinking if you dial that back you'll have a heck of a lot more tire on the ground, unless you have huge amounts of body roll.....
So what was the event - a track day or something more serious - inquiring minds want to know

Re: Swamp thing, from drift car to Endure car
The engine was machined by a great shop in Seattle. Balanced and everything. My buddy assembled the bottom end and we put the rest together. I'm not sure what or why it let go. We set the rev limiter to 7500, maybe to high? I built a bitchen pan with doors and baffles. Shouldn't have oil staved. Me and L's just don't get along. We are ordering a NA SR tonight.
I hear what you are saying about camber but it out cornered every car there, not saying it couldn't be better. Maybe the extra roll of no sway bar. At the end of the straights we hit about 120mph and it felt great.
We did a race with Lucky Dog Racing. It's a 7 hour enduro. You'd think it was a sprint judging from some drivers! A few guys shot off the track trying to over brake the 510 and carry more speed through the corner. They obviously don't know what 510's can do in the corners haha.
