The 2016 Historic Races are coming up this weekend.

I'll be out crewing with Paul Haym this Sunday in his 510. I'll take my 510 to put in the "Corral", it always gets lots of attention there, sitting inthe with the Porsche's and Ferrari's, and the usual suspects with British iron. We could use more 510's!

Attached is the event flyer, should be fun as always.

Here is their Press Release for the event:

The Vintage Racing Club of British Columbia (VRCBC) has announced that the twenty-ninth running of its annual marquee race weekend, the British Columbia Historic Motor Races (BCHMR), will be held on August 20 and 21, 2016, at the Mission Raceway Park Road Course, Mission, British Columbia.

This event has run since 1981. The races were first staged at the famous Westwood track in Coquitlam and then moved to their current home at the multi-purpose racing complex at Mission. The VRCBC’s British Columbia Historic Motor Races is the largest vintage race event in Western Canada and is a significant event in the Pacific Northwest, with typically 100 vintage and historic racing cars and several thousand spectators in attendance.

For 2016, the BCHMR is bringing back the popular Hagerty Formula Festival featuring the very quick pure bred open wheel and sports racing cars. The plans for 2016 also include a special race for vintage and historic sedans and sports cars of the types that we all remember from our younger days.

Returning as well for the 2016 event is the “Ride in a Real Racing Car Event” where fans can (for a nominal contribution) go for a ride on the track with an actual racing driver in one of the day’s cars during a dedicated period held over the lunch break each of the two event days.

The BCHMR is always popular with classic car enthusiasts. A 120-car display will be featured in a special spectator area, known as “The ADESA Field of Dreams”, creating a unique show of its own. Adding to the overall festival atmosphere are the many sponsors’ booths offering everything from automobilia and artwork, to automotive product displays. The food concessions, informative track side commentary and excellent grandstand viewing, all make this an entertaining weekend for families as well as long time motorsports enthusiasts.

The VRCBC is currently working on a full line up of interesting racing cars, racing celebrities and fun activities. As these are finalized, they will be announced on both the Club’s website: www.vrcbc.ca and the event website www.bchmr.ca, as well as through sponsors and the press.

I would be totally into this as it would be a great way to finish my holidays.

Is there a day that would be "better" of the two?

What time would you be heading out, I could hook up and convoy with you so we could park together.

The Perseid Meteor shower in Manning was an incredible display on Friday morning, too bad you missed it Byron, more meteorites coming in every minute than we have ever seen before, just spectacular.

Collin Jackson is bringing his vintage restored Brabam out, a car he crewed on as a youngster.

I can't claim much involvement in this car - aside from cage work and donating many, many parts. But I have offered lots of advice over the years, pretty easy to do since we have been shop mates for 8 years now!

Sunday will be fun, really looking forward to it.

Not too much to say about the day, car fired right up and I notice that both my pyros are not reading...HMMM...worked when I parked it.

Nice morning Drive to Byron's and as it was nice and bright, decide to look under the dash where the pyros all come together. Sure as hell the plastic fuse holder has just plain FAILED and popped apart, cheap plastic eh, it's only 6 years old.

Glen shows up in his red 510 and we are off to the track, nice light traffic.

I was disappointed at the amount of cars there, mostly locals..I thought this was a big deal..I think next year I will go to Monterrey.

Collin had basically no one in his league and I don't think there are any locals that would be there anyhow. he lapped the guys that were out there.

Paul drove well and had a barn burner race.

Ian was there with his DRC car, ti seemed to run well but he was having some rear brake issues.

The fellow that owns the ex-Dekon Monza brought the car out..and parked it..does that every time, it has not run in anger for I cannot remember how long, kind of a waste of a vintage race car.

We of course got to meet the new owner of Dave Doan's 510, he is a lucky guy getting such a well sorted car, I hope to see him out on our drives.

Ian Wood brought his restored Can-Am car, the real deal Mclaren M12, 427 Cu. of heart pounding power, and I'm not kidding you could feel the exhaust pulses thumping your chest 10 feet away, I can only image what a 30 car grid of these must have been like. I do remember the morning I met Mark Donahue in Seattle, at SIR, as he was racing the Formula 5000 series at the time, again V-8 powered open wheeled monsters. It was rolling thunder when they came down that straight...unreal. Ian was allowed, un-muffled to do a couple of laps, twice. Car needs a bit of a tune but it was pretty spectacular. Ian plans to take it to Monterrey next year!

Drive home was heavy traffic on #1, stop and go for miles, what a sad excuse for a freeway we have here now, gridlocked half the time.

Looking forward to the car show and a nice fall drive..SOONER rather than later.
