"1800SSS" historic racing project
Re: "1800SSS" historic racing project
The car is looking great.
That was the last set of those flares that I popped out of those molds.
Great to see other car on the track an in use. It must be a very rare car to be seen at all in Findland I’d guess?
Do you know of any 510’s near you that are driven on the street?
And at the track, are there even any other 510’s?

There are another 510 at the track, US imported 2d, built in Finland to BRE replica.
I know few 510´s that are driven on streets, we still have in Finland about 50-100 510´s left.

Last races of this season was at new Kymiring racetrack, qualifying went well, P7 on the grid, 4th in class.
After start clutch started to slip so race went wrong, finished 21st, 7th in class.
Got the clutch problem solved and second race was in wet, P19 on the grid due to bad laptime of the first start.
Good start but gearbox got stuck at 4th gear in first lap so have to get rest of the race only in 4th gear, still finished 7th overall, 3rd in class.
Championship points finished 2nd in class, only one point behind winner.

Historic race season 2021 started last weekend, done some improvements to rear suspension, handling is now better than last year.
Both races finished 2nd in class, 4th overall.

Re: "1800SSS" historic racing project
Nice Job!
What rear gear ratio do you run? Are you allowed to change?
As you have a motor with good high RPM capability, do you use 5th at all? Assuming a 5 spd..
The pictures are hard to tell if there is a "big" straight, if not, shorter gears would help tremendously in the short sprints between corners and 5th would be put to better use as you can pull the RPM.
Are you allowed to have a steering box brace, I do not see one. That actually helps with stopping frame twist, which we tested once back in the 80's, long before they became the flavour of the day, and now is common on 510's. It all helps.
