Re: 510 Day - Byron's place in Maple Ridge
510 Day 2024
Friday, 510 Day, was both a good day and a bit of a sad day, for me.
I left my daughters garage at 10:45, planning to hit Mission Raceway by noon, to help Andy with the motorcycle track day
he was involved with. I made the mistake of going out 16th Avenue, which was beyond stupidly slow; I should have gone Zero Avenue. Cripes, this FedEx driver was below the speed limit most of the way. I had to have my fans on half the time.
I arrived at Mission just at noon, so lunch was under way.
A few of our regular crew was there so lots of bench racing till Andy went out for his afternoon runs. I did the tire warmers again, off just before Andy heads out, then when he comes in, bike up on stands, brush tires off and check rubber for any cuts, etc, then put tire warmers back on.
Andy asked me how the car ran, I said I had mucked with the idle the day before, something I will have to address again. It is too rich now so maybe have to reduce the idle jet and reset base idle. I need it around 1,100 to 1,200 RPM to make sure cam gets oiled.
As it got close to 3:30 it was time to head to Byron’s, thinking I would be ahead of traffic..WOW….was that stupid. Such heavy traffic and at one point, the highway was one lane East bound, so the poor buggers heading home were back up for kilometers. I seemed to hit EVERY light, causing my car fans to just be able to keep the heat at bay, creeping up to 180F..I am so done with driving my car now in traffic, it just not even remotely fun anymore.
Thanks to Byron, he said it was ok if I showed up early, so I was first there at 4:00 PM. Did not take long for the cars to start showing up, a great mix of 510’s, roadsters, 240’s and a wagon. Byron’s/Greg’s Terry’s Memorial car came on a trailer, Byron having sold it, I had no idea he had done that, reality of time I guess. It has a way to go to be finished, still rough around the edges, hopefully it has some serious TLC to get it to Factory state.
Again, for me, what a great visit with old friends!!!! So many laughs and stories of our adventures, those many years ago.
The 510 Club was formed in 1991 and at one point had well over 120 members. The core group has long broken up, but, those of us left have fond memories of the height of the Club.
The things we did together beyond our 510’s, was another bond that we all shared together.
Hiking, camping, exploring old gold mines, go-carts events, road trips, meetings, mountain biking, barbecues, etc. and of course the many car shows.
The sad part for me this evening was that Byron had received a letter from the Government, which we all knew what it would be. The “club” had not filed for years the requirements to be a non-profit society. As those of us that were left Friday night were actual Club member’s in the beginning of the Club, we voted to just let it die.
It served its wonderful purpose of bringing our local 510 people together. For me, as I rolled 74 years of age this year, another symbol of time gone by, good time, but time never the less.
That we still get together when we can is a testament to the wonderful group of people, bonded by more than just our cars. That my son, who is now 39, was exposed to this group when he was 10 years old, hiking to an old gold mine and mentored by some, left an amazing impact on him of what “good and kind” people are all about, he still talks about to this day.
Thank you Byron, for hosting this again, I hope you got the burgers covered!!
Spencer was there too, nice to see him after a few years had gone by. Spencer created this site, still for me my communication to the 510 World. I hope it keeps going for some time yet!
Jamie had made an incredibly functional and beautiful cold air box for his car, one that actually works.
I left at around 9:00 PM, the nice cool air keeping my car running wonderfully, and, NO traffic!
I hope next to get the idle sorted out and my new tires on, then I will be ready for a nice drive into the mountains.

Re: 510 Day - Byron's place in Maple Ridge
Great pics Keith as usual. It sucks that I missed the gathering due to car problems. It is all better now. I think this was the first one that I missed!
Hopefully Byron will do it again next year.

Also appreciate the pics, I had a work commitment that overlapped.
To bad about the “official” club status going away, but it’s been a lot of years since it was more than a memory in all honesty.
