Well, I appreciate living vicariously through your photo essay and write up Bert - as always much appreciated.
There is a lack of Nissan's in your group - I'll fix that when I come along next time :-)

Sign me up for the next trip and the dig....

you didn't mention the best part about Steve lifting the back end of the 510(by the wheel arch) two feet out of the creek to get said rocks and wood under.

we should do harrison west fsr to port douglas soon. only two higher passes that get snow before we get it. port douglas is 3meters above sea level average trip takes 3hrs we can check out the old town site and get a tour of a "they wish they were hollywood miners" operation. if we found the road to ruff and wanted an easy way out. we can head up the liloet fsr that will dump us out @ duffy lake rd then back home via squamish.

Thanks Robyn, I amended the story with Steve lifting the car, that was an awesome feat! It is always hard to capture a cool day like that, with pictures and words, and remember all the details.

I'm going to go back into the mine records, now that we have found the camp, and re-read them. Sometimes details get overlooked. I see where the assay lab was originally, and I kinda think that it may have been missed also.

It's amazing when you think there were no roads then, just pack trains of horses, from Squamish to the mine. It would have been a 2 day journey to get there. Same with the old Red Mountain mine, how in hell did those large pieces of steel get up there?

The Tracker bumper is ok, it just blew 3 of those plastic pins out and I think we can push the dimple out of the plastic where it got squished in. I'm going to the car wash today to blast the underside.

I like your plan Robyn, we will look at Matt's work schedule and go from there.

My apologies Robyn, it’s awesome that you fly the flag for us.

Although by the sounds of it, it seems you could use some skid plates and little more ground clearance…

Look forward to joining you next time. Both trips you mentioned have been on my hit list, and why I bought the Xterra in the first place. I’d look forward to it.

Cleaned up my pack yesterday, here are two of the bottle's we found. They are "Malkin's Best", likely vanilla extract, maybe peppermint on the smaller one. I would say the larger one pre-dates the screw top one, as it had a cork stopper in it. This is very similar to my Worcestershire bottles from Red Mountain, where it used a cork/glass stopper, from the 20's.

How kool is that. "Malkin's best" That's an old antique bottle (local-duh  ). It's probably named after the Malkin Family
that was a former Mayor of Vancouver back in the late 1920's. Mr. Malkin had a grocery wholesaler and probably carried
a private label of vanilla extract. One of Malkin's grand nephews is into Real estate. That's where the Malkin Bowl and Malkin street got it's name from. Unfortunately, he was only mayor for one term unlike our Mayor Moonbeam.

You are correct, that is a local company/family.

When you think of the time period, it would only make sense that supplies would have been gleaned from the local area as much as possible.

The other old mine we used to go to, even though it was in the U.S., got all it's food supplies from Vancouver/Chilliwack, all packed up on horse trains and trails.

That would be a later one, as the larger one that I found has the glass stopper top, not the
threaded cap.

Kinda silly, but....I left the bottle alone, did not clean it, and have put small amounts of water in.

My terrarium is still going, after almost a month after being removed from the forest floor.

A 90 year old terrarium if you will.... :D
