Matt's 1970 4dr 510

Post by mattyhacks71 »

[copied from another forum]
My names Matt, I live in Victoria and this is my 510 that I picked up in November!

I had a WTB ad up on the local classifieds and this lady emailed me saying she had one she wanted to sell. She was the second owner of this 4 door sedan, column shift automatic, 83,706 original miles, tan with brown interior. Body work was done 10 years ago and the husband never got it running again after, so the body is in great shape and the car is rust free. It doesn't run, and because it has been sitting it will need some work to get it back on the road. Anyways on to the pics!

Hooray for parts! Got my rebuild kit and air cleaner as well as some rear brake parts from new-datsun-parts.com (awesome experience dealing with them). My adjusters are seized at the moment but hopefully they'll free up, got to take the drums somewhere to get turned because my work doesn't have a lathe. Also I'll be getting some suspension parts soon (camero shocks and better condition springs for the rear, and 200sx struts for the front) all at a hard to beat price from co worker. Trying to get motivated and movin', but its difficult when you gotta work outside in the cold/dark :?
Enough complaining!

Pulled the carb apart and "rebuilt" it using the redline kit. Gave everything a real good clean using seafoam and a scotch pad then used air, made sure all the jets weren't clogged.

The guts all pulled apart. I used this from a supra forum as a general guide line http://www.mk3supra.org/topic/561-guide ... dgav-carb/

Clean, reassembled and reinstalled

And.... IT RUNS! A vid after it had warmed up

I tried tuning it a little bit but as you can see it still hesitates if you give it quick throttle, I'm not sure why this is? And it was leaking where I pointed the camera but it stopped.

Thankfully Dave at FutoFab will soon have an option for us all regarding new (front and) rear bumpers, and thankfully the end of the $1000 bumpers - even though I'm sitting on a pair of them.

Car looks great, hope to see you at some local Southern BC events if you can make it over to the mainland.
