71 Goon, SR inside
71 Goon, SR inside
Brief run down, from SK Canada and ANY 70's import is rare because of rust..
This wagon was a buddies for 10years parked safely in his driveway, He rescued it from a junkyard... took a few years but he FINALLY sold it too me to fun other projects...
Not only do I get the car, but an SR drivetrain removed from a swapped 240 and boxes and boxes of parts he had collected.
I picked it up in December but get it stashed in the trailer until today
On its way to the garage for engine/trans removal and parts inventory
Removed...
And now some parts pics
Lies!!
Car is full
Hee hee
Like a glove!!
First things first... Scuffed up some chrome on the trashed bumper to make sure I like the dull look... And I DO
Then it was bumper and tow hook? RV anchor thingy removal
Still have to get serious with larger portion of the bracket welded to the frame
In the cuttin kinda mood, I told the battery it can't live there anymore...
ok... The cross member flipped out
Hacked out the old exhaust... its tiny and cute!
Readied the Saskatchewan engine crane
Not my proudest moment... but I'm a one man show
NEXT issue,,, is my Holset won't fit.. I will try some clocking and fiddling first.. but an adapter of sorts may be required to move it slightly forward into the available space
if I had got the stock turbo with the motor... none of this would be required
progress... spacing it up and at an angle and it will fit. Well but "fit" it means I shouldn't have to go into the shock tower to do it.
Sorry for that pic... they never look blurry on the damn phone lol
I am ALMOST hoping it wont fit under the hood
one step closer to installing the turbo, its nice too have friends with cool tools!
More progress and pics as it comes...

Re: 71 Goon, SR inside
As I scanned through your thread tonight - this photo caught my eye, and I guess my imagination.
Kinda like saying - "What are you up to?"
Glad you project suvived your divorce - hopefully it wasn't the cause.
In any case I hope even more that your project can be a source of happiness and enjoyment as you move on.
Keep us posted.

Some assembly required………
With that kind of power, don't forget about upgrading the brakes and suspension

Re: 71 Goon, SR inside
Thanks Gents!
The turbo is a Holset HE351VGT that has been modified from the original CANBUS control... it SHOULD build boost in 2500rpm range if the calculations are correct, if not.. (the turbo was one of 3 I had on the shelf lol )
I have 280zx set up with AGX strut inserts and air shocks in rear... As for brake upgrades.. rotor and pad choice have yet to be determined.

Re: 71 Goon, SR inside
If you want to drive your goon on the street, you may want to reconsider that turbozilla you got strapped on there. I'm running a Garret 3071R twin scroll with a super small exhaust turbine and I'm not getting real boost until 3,500 RPM with my SR. If you're looking to make 600hp though that's the ticket.
Honestly, if I had it to do over again I would have converted to rack & pinion steering and kept the super compact stock bottom mount configuration, but upgrade the turbo to a T28. Pushed to 14 psi that will get you an honest 300hp and in a little goon, that's some silly power.

Sometimes people loose touch with subjectivity, because they've got they're heads stuck too far up they're own,,, Reality.

After an epic weekend battle with my sandblaster I AM VICTORIOUS!!!!! what a pain in the ass...
so only a few pics of this weekends adventures
Steering removed
280ZX donors..
Tearing them down... would have been far easier IN a damn car, they were damn tight!

Set up my redneck paint booth

Not a huge update... but parts have begun to arrive and I found a few hours to kill in the garage last night
working on gettting the car back on the wheels with the new suspension, Mr2 rear strut inserts in 280zx struts and coilovers.
280zx stuff
shortened 3/4"
welded up.. and welded on a collar to hold my coilover... no its not high end stuff sorry
painted.. and ready to assemble
