FutoFab Introduces Steel 510 Body Parts

Front valence is the same MY68 and MY69, changes for MY70+.

It has been a long haul, but we have our first shipment in transit. The parts are scheduled to be at FutoFab on November 13th if all goes smoothly (and no I'm not going to hold my breath that it will go smoothly).

When I first started discussing this with the manufacture back in the beginning of this year the first parts were going to be available in May. As you can see we are now into November and they have just shipped.

I will say in the manufacturer's defense that they are starting from scratch, making all the tooling and reinventing the entire manufacturing process for each part. I would not want that task at the level of fit these parts need to be made too.

FutoFab is in the process of updating the website to add the steel parts to our online ordering system. We have also partnered with a freight forwarding service named Bongo International to help reduce freight costs to our international customers (this will be a help to Canadian customers for parts to large to ship thru the postal service).

Events like Eagle Rock and others are something FutoFab needs to work on having a presence at. Seeing products first hand is the only way for folks to truly understand the quality of the parts they are buying.

FutoFab will be attending the Carlisle (PA) Import and Kit Car National as a vendor on May 15-17, 2015. This will be a chance for east coast Datsun enthusiasts to see the quality of our products in the flesh.

The 2015 Carlisle Import event features Asian cars for the event marque. Too bad it falls the same weekend as the Jefferson 500 Vintage race/SPEC510 Meet at Summit Point, but maybe some will do a fly by and say hi.

Dave, this is fantastic news, especially about the the Z parts, ESPECIALLY about the bumpers. After the disappointment of the recent chrome bumper supplies from "other" Z retails, this is the best news of all. I hope you have enough coming! I'd like details of exactly what the new bumpers come with, regarding bumperettes, rubber trim etc if that's not detailed on your site pls.

A source for affordable COMPLETE amber taillights is another thing I will personally start saving for immediately.

Please remember to make these announcements over at the various Z forums as well. I'll do everything I can to spread this news to my local Datsun community.

The 240Z bumpers are just the beam. They are the JDM style without the rubber face strip or the strip mounting holes. Hardware must either be reused or purchased new.

Regarding the hardware for both 510 & Z bumpers, offering a "kit" with new nuts, bolts and washers would probably be a good option, especially where we have new mounting brackets available as well.

The finish on the chrome I have seen (both the 510 & 240Z pre-production bumpers) is incredible! They do all the work in-house right up to the actual plating. They form the bumpers, weld in the mounts, trim, grind and polish the surface (this includes every surface that would be seen once installed, including the license plate brackets that hang down below the beam on Z car fronts). The parts are oiled and sent to the plater. The plater does NO PREP other than clean the oil off so they are ready to plate.

The 510 bumpers are not true reproductions. They have been formed of 1 piece of steel, not welded together like the OE part was. No seams to gather water and create rust. one solid piece of steel end to end. I can't wait to get a few bumpers out there so people can see them.
