Anyone ever seen one of these??

Post by goichi1 »

I found this the other day in a junk yard, looks to be a pre-pathfinder conversion of some sort. Pretty cool and functional! there was a back fold down seat inside too. Plus it was a turbo diesel, but the motor was gone!!

Yes, it's a Bushmaster 720 conversion. Looks like the first Toyota 4Runners.

That's interesting, the roof is actually raised up.

Turbo diesel, really? I did nthink any of the 720's were delivered with a turbo in NA...

The Bushmasters were all 4x4s IIRC, hence the name. That appears to be an '82-'83 4x4 with the fender flairs. 720s never had a diesel in the 4x4 nor a turbo option for it. I believe the roof is cut off and a one piece canopy installed like the 4Runner and old Chevy Blazer.

True.

If you go back see if there are any ignition coils on the driver's side behind the headlights. Coils = gas engine.

That's a lot or wiring loose in the engine compartment maybe someone swapped the body onto diesel? Too much work to make a gas into a diesel. Is it a 4x4???

Damn, I was just there today, I didn't see your post, but there is all kinds of extra wiring in the engine bay, there is also an extra fuse block too, some extra metal brackets here and there too, easy to see them because they are painted yellow. It is a 4x4. I don't remember seeing any coils....it also has rancho shocks on the rear with helper spring plates. a double tube rear bumper with receiver hitch.
