Re: The White Sloth Project
The POR does a pretty nice job of self leveling itself, so even though it was applied as if I was painting a house like Daniel-san it ends up smooth in the end. Of course you can also spray it on once diluted, but in tight areas and lack of space I felt I needed more control, specially with nasty, sticky shit such as POR.

Re: The White Sloth Project
The flash causes the POR to appear streaky and inconsistent but I assure you it's not.

Re: The White Sloth Project
With the car's floors now completely re-protected I could move back onto the body.
P.S. Some of my photos are out of sequence.

Re: The White Sloth Project
Since the car was originally White I wanted to keep it stock, but with the lack of a body/trim vin system I figured it doesn't truly matter as there isn't a coded plate to adhere to. I ended up choosing a Datsun 2-stage OEM color called Ivory White 904. I would've had this sprayed by my body/paint guy, but the plan was to get the Engine Bay done and get the motor rebuilt and back into the car ASAP. I wanted to drive the car to the paint shop instead of having it towed. Plus I didn't want to hinder my forward progress while I saved for paint/body work.

Re: The White Sloth Project
Steering box refresh. Before and after...
Removed the thick oil/grease from inside the box using gravity and then a pump. Purchased an OEM plug, removed all the old paint, cleaned, primed and painted with some high-heat black paint since the box resides so close to the exhaust manifold.

Re: The White Sloth Project
Back to the motor...
Before I got into this project the previous owner stated the engine needed the Head gasket replaced - no problem. I was under the assumption that the motor was a basic L20b with the U67 open chambered head. Anyway, I was thinking that I would just rebuild the motor with L18 dished pistons or Flat tops and toss an A87 Peanut head on it with a cam. But after removing the Head that all changed.

Re: The White Sloth Project
Yes, those are Venolia domed 87mm pistons. A pleasant surprise I might add. Ok, so now I was curious about the rest of the set up. Upon further inspection I found hidden within the manual that the old owner gave me a cam spec .sheet for a Nismo L7 cam shaft. You can't always rely on shit you find in the car, specially when the car is 40+ years old. I went and checked the number on the cam and it was in fact the L7 cam (or at least the Isky version of it, but I believe that Isky was the company that made the Nismo parts back then) as it had written on the end of the cam. The Valve springs were off white in color, which we know isn't stock and the Head had been de-shrouded. Cool!
