techniques section under the technical section
techniques section under the technical section
How about creating a techniques section where there one could post subjects such as machining, welding, fabrication, upholstery ,etc.? I was thinking after following Joel's ongoing posts on CF fabrication and other's excellent how to do postings on their builds , that having a section that showed how to do processes that apply to 510's would be beneficial. After the a project is done it kind of gets buried in the particular build and is then hard to search for. Thoughts?
Re: techniques section under the technical section
I 2nd that good idea.
Re: techniques section under the technical section
Any more input?
Re: techniques section under the technical section
More of an organizational wondering - is there going to be a "Techniques" moderator of sorts that goes around and gets people to move their posts to the new forum architecture? Take Joel's resurrection of the eyebrow trim. Does Joel just put that in the new forum, does it get moved after people respond favorably (sort of how "Featured Projects" works), or?

I like that idea as well - thanks for suggesting it.
I will work on its implementation!

Hi Spencer, good idea, some of these long technical discussions kinda lose site of the car itself, it would be good to segregate them.
Or do you'all mean to have them in two places?

Re: techniques section under the technical section
Good question, I was hoping that previous posters, i.e., Joel would move that info to the new section with the title " How to restore trim" or " Using CF to build a manifold". And that new posters that are doing builds, that think that their processes would be beneficial to others, would in their project builds put a link to the new section. For example, I am in the process of making a test engine stand for the SSE, so instead of posting that individual project in the my car project build, I would just say, " I built a test stand for the VQ so that I can test the operation of the engine before it is put into the wagon (see this if interested; link XXXX).okayfine wrote:More of an organizational wondering - is there going to be a "Techniques" moderator of sorts that goes around and gets people to move their posts to the new forum architecture? Of course if members of the forum saw some technique that they thought would be good topic, they could suggest it to the original author to be included in the new section. Lots of stuff in Byron's and Julian's builds come to mind. My main thought is that there is so much great info on the Realm, that I don't want to see it buried in the project builds, which is totally unsearchable.

I'm confused about the search issues. Doesn't the search function look in the texts of the threads for keywords?

I like this idea too. Sometimes I'm wondering how to do something that I've seen here on the Realm but can't find it easily.

This is a great idea, as things do get lost in the threads.
It would easy to copy and paste into the new technoques section, I would think.
I would be prepared to do that for a few of my things, like adusting steering box, carb stuff, etc.

Cool, the more processes the better. I hope that the new area does get setup, then we can contact the OP's it see if they are willing to move their content to the new spot and it would allow them to maybe edit the original postings. I know that when I do things that later on, I would done them a little different the next time.bertvorgon wrote:This is a great idea, as things do get lost in the threads.

Yes, we could give the threads new names that really point to what is in them better.

I haven't forgotten about this but due to some other problem it isn't as easy as it should be...
