65 Datsun Roadster body and frame

Post by jovial_cynic »

I picked up a rusted out 1965 Datsun Roadster body and frame on ebay for REALLY CHEAP yesterday. The front fenders and hood are in good shape, so I'm probably going to clean them up and sell them, but the rest of the body is pretty well trashed. I might use it as a mock-up for a welded body frame or something, but I don't know yet. I might just chop it up and get rid of it.

I wasn't aware that the roadster wasn't a unibody like the 510's were. When I went to pick it up (no wheels on the thing... a buddy and I had to lift it onto a flatbed trailer), the body lifted right off the frame - I had no idea! The frame is in great shape, so I'm thinking about using it as a future project to build up a custom datsun car. My plan right now is to only use datsun parts, plus whatever parts I happen to build, which is pretty cool. I don't know what I'd call it yet. We'll see.

Anyhow, does anybody know of any resources online of write-ups on complete from-the-ground-up car builds? I know folks have done it (heck... Tim did it on Home Improvement!), but I haven't run across anything online.
