Anyone have any pointers on installing headliners

Post by jonmorine »

Hey,

Just about to install my headliner. I know I have to rip out the old one but are there any tricks to the trade?

Thanks

Both the front and rear glass need to come out first. Then take it to a pro and have it done right. I was able to do everything else on mine myself, but I left the glass and headliner to the pros. It will be money well spent.

I just finished mine. Yes, front/read glass gaskets need to be removed. I removed old torn headliner and took a measurement and my wife sew new one using a vynil sheet. This is what I learned:

1) Start from rear and move forward. You see a hook in the center of rear window. Keep certain tention on headliner and glue and press it till dry.
2) Each steel bow has a different length and color coded. Note the color painted on the edge of each bow.
3) If you are replacing front pillar cover, you need to remove front dash pad.
4) You may need a new insulation material.
5) Always a good idea to keep old headliner for reference.

I hope this helps.

Pay someone with experience to do it. Many do-it-yerselfers look ok, but most pro-jobs look great!

I had a time with the wagon headliner.... I had already put all the glass back in.... but guess what... had to come back out.. The front glass and the cargo bay windows...

Don't do it while its cold... make sure its nice and warm and get it tight...
