From an old memory. On my cars this relay is either the high beam (or passing light relay as it say's in the wiring diagram) or was it the horn relay. You have just worked your horn, so you should know where that is. Is your head light and horn relay on the rear side of the strut tower? The relay in the picture, you disconnected it last year?

You're correct. I took that relay out last year when I changed my alternator over to an internally regulated one. My horn and headlight relays are together on the back of the driver's side strut tower.

Well, then i am sure this is your high beam relay. It has nothing to do with the alternator or anything. I don't have my car at home so i could confirm but i am 99% sure.

Ok, I still have it so I'll toss it in and see! My wiring diagram doesn't show 2 separate relays for the headlights but it's worth a try!
Thanks for the suggestion, Beo! I'll report back in a bit after I've gone out to try it. 🙂

Well, no luck however I am going to take the relay apart & clean the contacts just to be certain. It did click when I plugged it in, though. I couldn't find it on my wiring diagram, either. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Live and learn, never be sure of anything. Always remember these cars are like individuals, none are the same.
Have scanned all my wiring diagrams from the FSM, one page from the parts catalog and take pictures of the 25230-89903 passing light relay.
I have looked at old pictures and all my cars have this relay (at least where the pictures show the placement).
You could try to measure the wires in the socket and see if you got signal when switching the high beam.
Do you have little button at the end of the high beam "stick"/switch? (if yes, it is for signal with the high beam).
You can study the diagrams and see if it do any help.

Thank you so much, Beo! Those diagrams will be great to have. I'm saving them to my car file.

I don't have the button but that passing light relay looks exactly like the one in question! I have never heard of a passing light system in a 510. Wow!

I'm going to go out, grab it & take a pic to compare.

I've got that going for me, at least!

I've pored over these diagrams and my color diagrams & I just can NOT find what this thing is for! The wire colors are W/L, G, Y, & B with a 4 prong connector. Even though this looks nearly identical to the passing relay Beo posted, the wiring colors don't coincide. Color me confused. 🥴
About all I know is this might be a Hitachi relay (but I might even be guessing the logo wrong)and it clicks when I plug it in but does nothing when I flip the light stalk.

I guess my next step is to take apart the stalk & clean it up again to see if that helps.

This suddenly seems relevant...

Years ago, while working on a buddy's 260Z, I found a few interesting pages in the FSM for that car. The concepts are consistent with our earlier 510s, so make note of their engineering dept's use of certain colors for certain basic subsystems...
