Hi,
My 510 has the below cover, ignition switch and locking option on the column:
Then i found the ignition switch was not fixed to the cover, so any key turn would bring it to rotate...
Is my ignition switch a stock one and how to fix it better? There doesn't seem to be anything inside the cover for that!
Also tried a ignition switch from a 280Z, it locks the column BUT of course the cover cannot fold on top and is absolutely not compatible with.
2 questions:
Any solution to fix the switch a firmer way?
Possible to get a switch locking the column with stock cover?
Thanks
Seb
510 Steering column cover & ignition switch
Re: 510 Steering column cover & ignition switch
The column cover that you have in your hand will not fit over the 280Z switch? It seems as though it should.
Also, the round switch that you have does not appear to be correct. That looks like a "dash mount" type switch. I have that type on my 411 but do not recall seeing them on a 510. Maybe early 510's had a dash switch.

Re: 510 Steering column cover & ignition switch
68-69 model years (and maybe some labeled as 1970) have dash mount switches. My 69 does. the column cover is basically just cylindrical.
I agree with Kelmo that your cover should theoretically fit over the Z car switch, unless the 280Z is somehow different than the 240Z. I do not have personal experience, but have seen it posted elsewhere that the 240Z switches will work in a 510, but are mounted on the other side of the column as is shown in the fourth picture.

Re: 510 Steering column cover & ignition switch
Look on the back of your two plastic column cover pieces...............there should be a part # cast into the plastic. Post it here AND PM it to me (I'm not here on therealm enough, so would likely miss your post). That part # should tell us if it is the same as USA spec. I bet it is not the same. The 240Z-280Z ignition lock assembly DOES bolt right up to a USA spec 70-73 510............you simply rotate the OFF-ACC-ON-START plate 180deg around, cuz the 510 is on the left side! If the plastic cover is the same & the Z car ignition lock does not line up, then I would GUESS that your steering column is Euro spec, perhaps placing the ignition lock assembly differently.............??
