I'm am considering doing this to one of my cars in the next couple years, I have one of the original dash units too (but broken), so need to consider if I use it or a modern evap box.
I have a decent 70-73 510 under dash unit! If L16 L18 engine, you can use an original dealer installed rudimentary compressor bracket or you can fab one. If L20B, the late 620 had factory optional AC, find one of those cast iron brackets. Also, the 1980 only 720 still had the L20B & factory optional AC, likely same cast iron bracket as the 620............?? We use a late model Sanden compressor on our 240Z AC projects...........small & much more efficient than the original big bulky heavy York units!

I think the white truck had AC, yes? If so, it might be factory optional set up, take a look at the compressor bracket! If welded flat steel, dealer installed. If cast iron, factory installed...........

I have a nice aluminum bracket from an '81 720 I parted out years ago. It had a Sanden-type compressor, so it should fit to a modern 7 series unit.

I will check the 620, but it is mounted up high on the passenger side (RH side facing forward) of the engine. And it's a York. Looks like a multi-piece bracket.

Ahhh, yuck.......big boat anchor York, mounted upper right side!! I never thought to see if the later 720 NAPZ bracket would fit the L20B.....?? Nice if aluminum & it does! The 280ZX L28 was aluminum & bolts up to all of the L24 L26 L28 (does NOT fit the L 4cyl blocks!).

Here is that aluminum bracket I got off a 720 attached to a L20B block. Bolts right up. I also have the original compressor, and it is the Sanden style, so a later one should bolt up. Not sure the the idler/tensioner pulley setup works as I disassembled this years ago and did not take pictures that I know of.

So is that a 1980 720 L20B bracket or a later 1981-on 720 NAPZ bracket?

In regards to the AC crank pulley, the NAPZ had a much different front crank pulley assembly, never tried to see if it fits the L20B. We found at least three different 6cyl AC pulleys with different "depths", which will cause NON alignment of the fan belt. In the end, we cut & weld the tensioner bracket to suit, to line them up. If you can pull every pulley part off of one engine, that is the only way to be sure it all lines up without fabrication!

Yes, should have been clearer. The parts I have are all from an '81 NAPZ 2.2 liter 2wd truck. I have the crank and pulley around here somewhere, I will have to look at the pulley and see how many grooves it has, as I don't remember off hand.

I wanted to confirm the bracket fits L-engine block, so that's what I tried. I think position fore/aft should be the same between L and NAPZ blocks.

L20B vs NAPZ yes.................but L16 L18 the block casting is different, including those threaded bosses on the left front lower where that bracket bolts up!
