Been working on fitment issues on my Gilson SSS dash and made a set of inserts to use Nissan closeable vents using 3d printed parts. For my project I chose the door vents from a 370Z. They are readily available at a reasonable price, and work well in this application. I picked up a pair of them on Ebay for $30.
While waiting for my Gilson dash to arrive I designed a vent holder for the glove box side vent. The Gilson vent opening was slightly different than the original Datsun vent hole (slightly larger in diameter and a bit deeper). I designed a second vent holder to fit the Gilson dash. You really have to look closely to see the difference, but now have vent mounts to fit both sides.
I printed these in a mat black PLA filament. They have a raised notch to allow the vent to be snapped into position, and a screwdriver can be inserted from the back for easy removal. If you would like to print up a set of these for your own project, just PM me and I can send you the .STL file for your 3d printer.

Re: Gilson SSS Dash Vent insert
Nice work.
Maybe it is my reading comprehension, so I have to ask if you are saying you have a file for either the stock size hole or the Gilson version available?
I would be interested in the stock size hole insert file. Same for both sides?
Thanks.

Re: Gilson SSS Dash Vent insert
Hi,
I made a file for both the original dash and for the new Gilson SSS dash.
For the original Datsun dash I used the same vent insert for both sides of the car. The original one has a very slight offset with four mounting tabs. You rotate the insert to compensate for differences in the left and right vent holes. I instead made the tapered part on the back side of the insert a bit longer so that it would fit either side.
Below is a picture of my insert mounted on a stock dash panel.
Pm me an email address and I will send you the file for the stock vent. I use Autocad Fusion 360 for my drawings, so I could send the file in a different format (other than .STL) if you prefer.

Re: Gilson SSS Dash Vent insert
Your are amazing. I'll message you my email address. My Gilson dash should be here today and I've been considering options for vents and this is perfect. Been looking for an excuse to fire up the 3d printer.
Adapter to mount stock vent in SSS dash
I made a little adapter to fix the gap when you mount a stock vent in the SSS dash. Its just a sleeve with a flange that slips over the stock vent, fills the gap, and keeps the vent secure.
Again, if you want to make one of these for your SSS dash, PM me and I will send you the file for your 3D printer.

Sleeve fitted over the front of a stock vent.
Here is the stock vent mounted using the adapter sleeve. No gap and all secure.
Hope this helps with SSS dash installs.

Re: Gilson SSS Dash Vent insert
Thanks again for the file man. I still haven't tried to mount my Dash yet, but thanks to your print the 370z vents snapped right in.

I agree, great community here and very generous to provide these details and the 3D print files.
