What did you do on your 510 today?
Re: What did you do on your 510 today?
Pulled the 72 Sedan's speedo cable and it is broke, found another in the garage and it was broke. Found another that worked but it's way longer than the others? It has this bump thing in it. I know I bought several replacement cables from NAPA way way back. I guess now to do some searching.

Hopefully today was the last kick at the cat for spring maintenance. Rolled the car to Specialty today where we found the down pipe from the waste gate was really eaten away beneath the flange....WOW! That section of pipe has been in service since 1996 when Andy built my 3" stainless exhaust
5 hours later Andy has rebuilt the side of the pipe with stainless weld, then ground it flush again, then "ported" the opening for smooth flow..
It was much easier to fix this with weld, as making a new flange and the slight bend in the down pipe would have taken much longer. Never-Seize sure proved it's worth, as the bolts came undone super easy and the slip joint...slipped apart...
The gaskets he had were too big, so he found a sheet of Mr.Gasket header type material, where I made up 2 new gaskets. I hope they last for awhile, I did order some from Turbonetics so hopefully they arrive in the next week or so.
They will get a re-torque before next fire up.
I'm ready for just a fun drive, no more FIXING.

Exciting times! A reward for all your patience

It's from an automatic - it should work fine, and the length actually allows for it to not be such a snug fit to get it to the tranny.....edekalil wrote: ↑11 Jul 2021 15:31 Pulled the 72 Sedan's speedo cable and it is broke, found another in the garage and it was broke. Fixed the exhaust manifold and down pipe issues and swapped the points ignition with the matchbox that was in the 72 sedan and wha la she runs great and sounds way better. Now trying to find time to clean her up.

So, I did a thing!
Last week I finally figured out how to get this done. I'll let the pictures do the talking...I'm stoked. Yup, I've got a cup holder and gauge pod to mount under the ash tray.

Woo hoo! Congratulations.
Re: What did you do on your 510 today?
I've been working through fitment of my Gilson SSS dash and single din 3 gauge mid-section. I still have some sorting to do to get everything lined up, but after some debate, I have been able to fit my Auto-meter gauges. If I did not already have these, I would have gone with Speedhut gauges as I believe these fit without modification. The 2 1/16 inch gauges all fit without issue but the 3 3/8 inch gauges (speedometer and tach) have a bezel that doesn't quite fit in the Gilson gauge opening. Given that my gauges were opened, my only option would be to try and sell them as used gauges and replace them. Given that I wanted them to match (i.e., I didn't want Auto-meter small gauges and Speedhut speedo and tach), this was going to be an expensive proposition to replace all 9 gauges!
Here's the gauge measurement: Here's the Gilson SSS dash measurement - close, but it would not push into the gauge hole at all... Here's the (nerve wracking) solution... A slow, light grind, all the way around the bezel until it fit. And here's the finished product!

Re: What did you do on your 510 today?
I wandered over to the garage yesterday and fired the 510 up for it's second start of the winter. I was amazed at how quickly it started considering the temp was 2 C (35F) and 20/50 Motul in there.
As we are heading to a very cold and long spell of this cold, -12C, I put a 100 watt light in the engine bay and a 500 watt work light on the passenger floor. That should keep my water spray system from freezing and generally keep it a bot warmer. The garage is well sealed and I have my cover on so it should help with warmth.
Also got it up on jack stands, those poor tires will be square after sitting for 2 months in the cold.
It snowed here in White Rock last night but turned to rain early, so most snow gone, at least at 150 feet off the ocean. More coming tonight and Xmas day they say.
Have a rest full holiday everyone!
