what happened to the banner photo? aka the "car of the month" thread

The "phpBB" banner is exciting, but what happened to the banner photo?

tl/dr ---> spam

The spam attacks have been getting really bad lately, to the point that Byron and I are having to wade through and deal with upwards of 150 spam posts on some days.

• Gambling crap
• Porn crap
• Business opportunities crap
• Fake id crap
• Fake passports crap
• Write-your-term-papers crap
• Prescription drug crap
• This crap
• That crap
• Crap on top of crap.

It got ridiculous over the past month so Spencer and I are trying a couple of things:

• The first part was that Spencer updated the phpBB software and apparently that means we lost the banner (for now?).
• The second part was to set up an e-mail account for sending spam-related IP source data back to the source's system admins so those commercial system admins can deal with spam emanating from their machines; we'll see how this second part of the approach works out!

Thanks Rob and Spencer for getting the new protocols in place. It’s so nice to sign on and start reading instead of spending a good portion of that free time cleaning up spam.

For the banner photo, I think rotating vehicle pictures would be great. Maybe a new picture every week/ 2 weeks/ month?
