thats in excellent condition --
i have the same diff style-- but 4.11s. and open (i think) with those weird stub shafts- ive never taken one apart to see if its easily converted to datsun threaded retainers //?
if you were closer id take it to merge these together.. and see whats required- or if the datsun inner stub retainer nuts just go in -

like i know that can be done on the subie r180s..

pop the cover off - if its a clutch type that would work on a datsun r160 i would say 300 ? but thats a total guess ..and im assuming its a R160

Hey Guys,
Another question. Will the drive shaft from a 510 bolt directly up to this unit? I know with the later model Subaru units, the drive shaft flange (or Yoke) has to be changed, but I think these earlier units are direct bolt-on right?

Thanks again,

Joe

It will bolt up to it but it does not fit through the rear cross member.

Yes, the early generation Subbie diffs are R160. They are basically the same diff made by Fuji Heavy Industries that came in the 510...........Subbie simply took over using them around 1984, 10 or so years after Datsun stopped. There is a "star bolt" way down inside the center of those Subaru stub axles.............I had to weld an extension on a standard "star bolt" socket (I can get the socket # if needed) to get down in there to remove the bolt. Once you get the Subaru stub axle out, the stock 510 stub axles bolt right in using the stock 510 long bolt! I keep a set or two of the Subbie stub axles around to use a "plugs" so fluid doesn't leak out during storage & handling. Cartel, the threaded collar that the long stub axle bolt threads in to is in there.............the Subbie stub axles fit the same way! Also the stock 510 front pinion flange will bolt right up, but needs to be torqued to spec. You can also swap the same generation 4.11 ring & pinion into this diff or swap the LSD unit into the 4.11 diff. There was a point where the ring gear bolts changed sizes, but I'm pretty sure all of the 1984-1989 Subbie diff parts interchange.........?? Although Subbie didn't offer a 4.11 LSD back then, I had the stickers made to read 4.11 AND I changed "SUBARU" to "NISSAN", just for detail!

Not only are Datsun people looking for these diffs, but the Subbie people are too.............getting hard to find these days! Value..........$350-550 USD!

TJ,

I think you are a bit low on your value. Others have recently sold for $800-$900. I sold one last year for $900. They are super hard to find theses days.
