Datsun Restomods CV showing at Byron's - Nov 25th 1-5 PM

Post by DADZSUN »

For those who haven't had a chance to hear/read about the CVs on my build thread, I'm starting to offer OEM CVs that fit PL510 and S30 Datsuns as well as Subaru R160-compatible stubs that work on the JDM Suretrac and Viscous units.

While the web/eCommerce site isn't quite ready yet (Jan 1st official), I have been rolling out a few units out as a 'soft release'. I happen to be in Vancouver for work next week and Byron has been kind enough to offer his place for a get together. The plan is for Sunday November 25th, 1-5.

While there I'll be installing a set of R160 CVs on a 510 so it's a nice chance for anyone interested/curious to see them in advance, as well as say hi. There will also be a set or two of R160 Subie/Suretrac stubs to check out as well.

Please PM me if interested in attending so I can figure out how many burgers to get.

Eh Kieth,

I know you have a personal appointment on Friday, but are you planning on joining us this Sunday at my place for this viewing and installation on my brothers car - and a general look-see at what’s new?

I had thought I would try to make it, not sure if any family plans yet but I think I am clear at this point.

Headlight switch was the issue.

Flying out to Vancouver tomorrow morning with 90 pounds of CVs - maxing out Air Canada's baggage allowance. 8) Looking forward to escaping the -20c early winter in Ottawa.

ZKars, you've been PM'd. As FYI for anyone else interested, only a couple left in this initial batch.

Byron, I only heard from one person potentially coming so it should be a small gathering. Grey Cup Sunday on the same day too eh!

Sounds good, I’ve heard from about 5 people myself.
It’s an open house guys, if you want to drop by on a Sunday to take a look at Fritz’s product - certainly feel free.
My wife is the coffee master, I’ll have some going and maybe a burger or two for the grill.

See you Sunday Fritz.

What a grotty day out there, with no heat in that garage I am not looking forward to laying under the car. I tried the other day to fire up my small camping catalytic heater but it would have to run for days to even put a tad of warmth in there. Hearkens me back to those years we have all done, laying in the dirt, cold concrete floors, whatever, to work on our 510's.

Going to be interesting to see if these fit!

It's FAR better than the -20 I left behind. Funny how perspective works eh? :)

It shouldn't take long, I'm getting pretty damn good at swapping these.

I would rather be in -20, than this damn damp cold we get..0 to 10C.

Just getting ready to head over to pull half shaft and then wait in my warm Honda if need be.

Have you landed?

Quick update, the CVs did NOT clear Bertvorgon's 3" exhaust. The rubber boot/strap was physically touching the exhaust. Had his exhaust went another 1" rearward it would have likely cleared.

So for larger exhausts there's definitely less margin, but depending on routing it's still possible to comfortably clear.

Had an awesome afternoon at Byron's - it was a real pleasure to meet everyone and geek-out on Datsuns.

Upon arrival a Meston 510 was prepped and ready for CV installation.

Some exhaust alterations were made as a precaution to not melt the boots.

Afterwards we spend some time talking shops and admiring Byron's collection.

We even took a peek to see if the infamous Bronze could fit the CVs. We didn't install but there appears to be room.

We wrapped up by 6. Looking forward to visiting again down the road. Thanks again to the Mestons for hosting.

It was a fun day for sure, it's always great to have a bunch of like-minded people out - especially when they are all great people. Lots of discussion was had.
In attendance to view Fritz's new CV shafts was Shawn (who became the 3rd or fourth customer I believe for these units), Glenn, Barry, myself, Mike, Keith, Matt, Jordan and Henk. It felt like there were more people there, I think I am missing somebody.
Shawn's wife brought us all a freshly cooked roast beef, cut up for hot sandwiches, Fritz brought the buns & cheese - thanks guys. It made it quite the days for us all, very enjoyable.
I'm glad someone took photos - that's one thing I'm really bad for not doing. If someone took a photo of the group that was there - post it. We document our cars well, seem to forget the most important aspect - which is all of us!
