I saw that diff on the weekend amongst other things ......
Dadszun has come up with what appears to be an affordable package. Stay tuned folks this is good ......

Finished up a second set of CVs for Andrew to test.
I'd say he's doing a great job! https://youtu.be/EApocIis-rs
Production versions will be stealthy matte black, but these are silver for a little more show in front of the lens.
A couple little tweaks were required on the CVs to install on his 100% stock drive train but I'm pleased to say it's getting close.

Re: Noobie's 510 project
Yah, I might be interested in these...if they could withstand a lot of torque, but, then, I'm not doing those crazy Solo starts either, on sticky tires, so these might be the cats ass.
Traditionally I'm not hard on power train components!

Re: Noobie's 510 project
I am interested also. I am a bit hard on the power train though.
If no one from the future comes back to stop you from doing it then how bad of a decision can it really be?
The CVs come off a vehicle with 225 lbs/ft so that's going to be the official 'warranty' number.
Overall they are quite large and fill the space between the control arm and moustach bar... leaving only 1/2" of room in places.
From what I've seen the housings are a good 15-20% larger than the JDM Subaru WRX axles (their power application is different however).
I've had an engineer look at my modifications, the intention is to meet OEM axle stub strength which seems to hold up fine for mid-200 power goals.
If you're running R160, these should match up perfectly fine. The current design will NOT fit with an R180 in a 510, the wider diff makes the net axle length is just too short (working on a solution).
Also, pricing will be sub $600 USD for the CVs, sub $300 USD for the R160 Suretrac stubs.

Re: Noobie's 510 project
Fritz and I did a couple very hard burnouts today without troubles. They fit nice and are no harder to install than the std axles. I will beat on them for the rest of the week or at least till the first snow comes.

Re:
That's too bad. The R160s don't hold up to the traction/power/abuse I put to them. I look forward to a 180 solution.

Re: Noobie's 510 project
I too have the r180, I was really interested in these. If there is a solution for our R 180's, I would be on that in a heart beat.

Re: Noobie's 510 project
Absolutely a R180 solution is in the works.
However, it looks like I'll have to include new shouldered hub bolts with the R180 CV which will add $60USD to the R160's $580USD price. Those damn bolts are NOT cheap! Otherwise, those interested will have to pull and ship to me their existing set to get to R160 price point.
As FYI, I'm bringing several R160 CV sets the 3rd week of November to Vancouver. I'm hopeful to have a R180 set as well for anyone who wants to see it.

Re: Noobie's 510 project
I went and found my dyno sheet this morning, I made just under 250 ft/lbs torque and that was up the rpm range, so I would have no problem with these, I am not hard on power trains anyhow, specially now that I am not doing slalom starts, etc, on very sticky tires, everything now is basically a roll on of power.

Re: Noobie's 510 project
I'm curious why you need to include the shoulder bolts?

Re: Noobie's 510 project
The shouldered sections act as locating dowels in shear across the flanges with a higher class fit; this removes stress concentrations that would exist at thread roots, where non-shouldered fasteners would most likely suffer from cyclic fatigue.
If he doesn't include shouldered bolts and then someone's setup suffers a catastrophic failure, then people will blame his product, but not the bolts...
FWIW, that is my take on it.
Re: Noobie's 510 project
Thanks Rob. While everything you stated is correct, funwithmonkeys was wondering why shoulder bolts have to be included as-a-unit with the R180 version of CV, whereas you can simply re-use your existing ones on the R160.510rob wrote: ↑31 Oct 2018 13:03

Without giving too much R&D away (although it will be obvious as soon as they're shipped out) is that these CVs are designed to maximum overall shortness, and even then they *just* meet OEM 1/2 axles compression numbers. Fortunately, there's still enough room to slide in and re-use stock shoulder bolts.
The R180 is 20mm wider which means I need to find a way to make an already mega-short CV, 10mm shorter. The only way I can engineer a solution is to insert the bolts earlier into the manufacturing process. They'll still be free floating per se, but you won't be able to pull them out and re-use.
