Roll the dice

Post by RMS »

After many many months of looking I have found a new 510 project. I received an email about a month ago about my WTB 510 shell https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/va ... nFlag=true
the email contained a number with a dreaded 250 area code, my first thought was " great its probably in Tuktoyaktuk". being here before I thought id give a call and maybe, just maybe it was in Hope. after a few rings an elderly woman answered "oh you want my husband he's out in the shop"..... long story short: this guy who lives near salmon arm, his buddy in the lower mainland had seen my ad, liked the work I did on the nickle and after a year he managed to convince his buddy to sell me the car.

I have not seen the car in person or in pics but hey beggars cant be choosers.

the car should be here in the "next day or so" and we will see what I got. will it be  or much

thanks guys! it was a little scary making a deal for something I haven't seen but it was worth the anxiety and shipping from the north.

found two problem areas ..... if you can call them problematic Image Image

speaking of roof racks... man is that rack solid! now the big question how do I deal with it ? how do I get it off the roof when its time to paint?

spent a hole hour on her yesterday, brakes are up, clutch is up, and once gas was added she fired right up. all electrics work down to the washer pump.
it even came with a fancy intake Image

with the temp hovering around 4c I quickly knocked off the factory undercoating (with the air chisel turned down low) to get a good look at the floors.

I noticed that the same care and attention (that I saw on the 68) was not used on the 72. a few drains did not have plugs and were covered over by the under coating :?:

just one pin hole left and the exhaust is done. used some 1 1/2in ID schedule 40 stainless pipe from the stock collector to a 2in thrush turbo muffler (part number 17702) located at the rear seat riser. I then used some leftover 2in vw toerag stainless bends to go over the axle to a second 2in thrush turbo muffler located between the spring hanger and inner 1/4. to finish it off I went back to the 1 1/2in schedule 40. there's more noise in the engine bay than tail pipe, it gives a low whoosh as the rpms come up and sits at idle with a low quiet rumble like a big dog and your too close to its bone. cant wait to hear what it sounds like under load and from what I could tell in the yard...... a noticeable increase in power. much better than other 1600s ive put 2in pipes on.
