Not nearly enough information.

If for a 510, use an L16 pan/pick-up from a 510.

Generally car L20B 'front sump' oil pans fit the car they came from... 610/710/A10/S10

Wasn't sure if the L16 pan came front sump. It's going in a 510 with a L20. I need the pan to have a front sump that can fit on an L20B if that helps.

Well other than the 521, the L16 came in the 510 so it will fit the L18 and L20B just fine.

Like Mike said, the 510 oil pan will fit L16,L18,L20B, plus it is rear sump not front sump. Not sure why you'd need a front sump oil pan for an L20B in a 510 unless you have a crossmember modified for a SR20 or KA.

Sorry guys, i guess i should have given a little more detail as to why. I'm actually doing a rack and pinion conversion. The front sump will allow me the clearance.

77-79 200SX I believe had a front sump (L20B), and it's possibly that the A510 was also the same, as the first gens (with round headlights) came with L20B's as well. It'll be tough to find either car as very few were kept.

It may be easier to find a KA oil pan as they were front sump, but it will need some modifications around the front cover area. Also the KA motor sits more vertical and the bottom of the pan will be at bit of an angle. If some one out there has put a KA pan on an L motor, maybe they could chime in on the exact differences. In any case, whatever pan you use, make sure you also get the matching oil pick up.

Were you planning on using a flipped crossmember, an A510 crossmember, using a unit from Jeff or were you fabbing up a new crossmember yourself?

Keep us posted on you project.

I'm using a unit from Jeff. It would be easier to just do the SR20 swap now but wanted to enjoy the L20 for a bit!

Car KA were front sump. The KA24E has a notch across the right front to allow for the external oil pump (just like the L and Z series have) the KA24DE pan is straight across like the L series. I have a car and truck KA-E oil pans at home and more than a few L and Z oil pans. I'll compare the L to the KA because I was not aware they were that close. I thought the KA might have a wider block.

Well the L/Z series oil pans are not even close to a KA pan. "oil pan" is as close as they get.

Image

KA24E oil pans. Front is to the left. Top is front sump '89 S13, below is similar year rear sump D21. Both have a diagonal notch (right front) for the oil pump. For a KA24DE pan just imagine the front squared off like the back.

Top S13 pan is much deeper over all to clear the crank girdle.
D21 is shallower.

.... but I digress.
