JWT sr20de high comp 11:1 pistons

Post by Five10packs »

I saw a couple people building NA high compression sr20de's with jwt modified 300zx NA pistons creating a 11:1 compression on unmachined block. Sounded cool, but when I asked for the price, they wanted $180 each piston without rings!! I called Arias pistons, and they said their 4 cyl kits are $5?? retail, and if i wanted a custom spec, it would be around 30 bucks more per piston! Forged pistons for under $600 or cast high comp modified pistons for 720! The guys that had those pistons must have gottena hell of a deal. I dunno anyone that would buy it for that much.

Dealer cast pistons say for a 280Z are 45$US apc

Forged cost more, just the way it is

Bust a nut on 11-1 C/R if you like. You must be rich to find good gas like that around but here is a link
One is the dished piston the other is Zero dish to get your 11/1

If you think you can run pump gas, there is no way. I have 10:1 on my turbo motor, and even before boost comes up, it pings on 94 Chevron gas. Having high compression sounds cool, but, in the real world of a street driven car, you want to be able to use your motor, not worry about whether the pistons are melting. My custom JE Pistons/rings were basically 800.00.

I read it again, and the pistons are forged, but still cost way too much.

If you are concerned about the cost of pistons for an SR20, don't get into the project...

I was curious what application u use this built 10:1 comp turbo engine for? U go NA and then decide to go turbo?

Well, I couldn not find many companies making high compression sr20 pistons. Even then, I was expecting it to cost around $500 a set. Just trying to make a point that they sell their forged piston for 720!
I know all the cost involved in rebuilding a engine besides the cost of pistons.

My engine was specifically built, with the turbo, to compete in slaloms, hillclimbs, sanctioned street races, etc. The high static compression was designed in to help compete with very fast, naturally aspirated cars at the tighter slaloms. Punch out of slow corners is paramount, so, we decided that the high compression, and good cam shaft choice, would definately help, before boost comes up.
