Hi all. Just wanted to start working on posting my datsun 510 build from the beginning. I have some of it already for the qr25 motor swap, but wanted to make a new one and keep it a lot more organized and hopfully fun to view.
Well it all started back in 2007. I had just gotten my license and had been wanting a project car. I had a 1987 Toyota van as my daily driver and some money burning a hole in my pocket. I found it in a apartment complex close to my work. It was bright yellow and had a weird grill on it. Then one day it was gone. Later I saw it again at a trailer park. The owners had moved. I Didn't know it was for sale till I asked the owner, turns out It had a for sale sign on it but the windows were so dark you couldn't see it.
The owners son was planning on making a little race car out of it but sadly had died. the dad was just trying to get rid of it now.
After some talking we agreed on a price $1000. Some how it started up and I was able to drive it home that night. Looking back now probably not the smartest thing to do, given the brakes went right to the floor, I had to pump the clutch quite a few times before I could change gear. But I was so excited to get it home, safety third. Haha. I only had to drive a few miles so not to bad.
They had swaped in a 5 speed from possibly a 240z or somthing, and also put a L18 in.
After getting it home I found out later that the trusty e-brake I had used to stop was connected if you can call it that by a few metal hangers wrapped up connecting the lever to the cable

Re: Qr25 Datsun 510 build from the beginning.
. My first order of business was of course to take it all apart and see what I have bought.
There was quite a bit of rust, the body was looking pretty nice from a distance. But up close you could see parts where the paint was bubbling showing somthing was hiding below. Some parts on the roof had some cracks in it the bondo was about 3/4 of an inch thick in some spots.
Also found out both rear quarter panels were all rusted out and had been basically filled with I bondo.
Turns out bondo was the previous owners favorite tool. Hehe.

Wow, that roof and grill ... ... I can't believe how far this car has come. This is the one with the custom intake manifold, right?
