200sx hub with 280zx strut???

Post by JohnR »

I have installed a set of 280zx struts and brakes on the front of my 1970 510 I would like to use 5 lug. Do I have to switch the whole strut assembly from a 1988 200sx v6 or can I use the hub and brake assemblies on my 280zx strut?

Many people get the ZX hub drilled for 5-lug. As to swapping the SX stuff onto the ZX strut, you're going to have to figure out the details: you'll need to pay attention to whether the ZX and SX share caliper mount spacing and what changes the different hubs will make to the acceptable wheel offsets you can use.

Even if that all works out, will the SX stuff all bolt to the ZX strut and line up? I'd expect that to be wishful thinking, but who knows. If you have the whole SX strut, that would be much, much simpler a solution, though you may still run into hub/wheel offset issues, depending.

They use the same bearings, the caliper bolt spacing is diff, if u have the 200sx strut id use them as the z32 calipers are a direct bolt up

yep, the Z31 (300ZX) or the S12 (200sx) 5 lug hubs will fit the 280zx struts, but you may have to trim the inner dust seal to get them to slide up on the flange, If i remember right, the S12 (200sx) seals are the best fit. Not sure about caliper/rotor fitment though....

What is the rotor diameter/spacing like can I use the 200sx hub with the 280zx rotor and caliper? I am looking for 5 lug but honestly for my intended use the 280zx front brakes combined with a rear disc conversion will stop just fine anything more is bragging rights.

iI would just use the v6 struts and keep the stock s12 calipers they are pretty much the same as the zx calipers just the spacing for the bolts is diff, if i remember right the zx is 90mm spacing and the s12 is 100mm spacing, plus if you ever decide you want to upgrade the z32 4 piston is a direct bolt up, they both use the same bearings so the spindal is the same.

Just switch to the whole S12 strut, it makes more sense.

good info there.

im guessing there isn't much chance of fitting a 28zx front hub and rotor onto an 200sx strut to suck in the track width eh?

I don't have any of the parts, I'm just assuming it would bring the the rotor too far in towards the strut.
