Anyone know the history of this BRE 510 #77 race car?

Post by broke »

Hey guys, my flatmate's boss recently purchased this 510 from the USA. Apparently it was raced by originally built by John Hawkins and raced by Mike Rickman and Paul Newman. It came with logbooks which recorded a lot of race wins in the US. He is keen to know if anyone has any information about its past. Perhaps some of you guys recognise it? Here are some pics (everyone loves pics!)

The IDx 10 concept is based on the 510 in the same way that the urinating I was doing last night was based on a 30 yr old single-malt scotch.

The log books are your best source. You can search race results online based upon the entries.

Your '80s pics show the owner was Dave Boyd, the car was from the SF Bay area (Hayward, CA) had SF Bay sponsorship, a 200hp Rebello motor and box flares, but that's pretty obvious. If Newman raced it, I'd bet it was an East Coast 510 at some point. Interesting that it is a '68 with the smaller tail light lenses. This might mean it was an early 510 race car from day one...or not.

Oops. Forgot to include the BringATrailer link from May that lists more of the car's history (improperly listed as a 1971). Car was indeed raced on both coasts.

I saw the "newest" version of this blue/white bubble flared 510 with those same pics for sale last year or longer ago. ... . maybe it was on ebay? for around $10k?

it's the reason I raised my rear flares above the body line, and figured it would look okay ..... . however I need to cut the flares in half and completly re-shape them to fit higher, and look "somewhat" right
