Cut and flip exhaust mani??

Post by Galen »

Would there be any reason that I wouldnt want to cut and flip a bottom mount exhaust mani for a SR20DET? Im trying not to spend a ton of money buying a new mani. I have one tubular mani, and the stock mani.

Also, im assuming if I did this I would have to rotate the turbo?...

Anyone have any pics of this method being done or am I just stupid and need to suck it up for a new mani?

Thanks,

Galen

A good welder (the person, not the tool) can flip a tubular one. The cast iron stock manifold can't be flipped because it's not symmetrical in that axis, and welding cast iron is a whole different kind of art, probably not recommended for a turbine manifold. Since you're asking the question, I bet it'll cost you same same to pay someone to do this as to buy a top mount.
Here's a nice cast top mount SR manifold at a great price...

It's a good manifold. There's like one nut that you can't get to real good to tighten up, I think I ended up modifying one of my wrenches to get to it. But it's got a lifetime warranty, you can't go wrong with that.

Technobabble...

"welder" = inanimate system that fuses materials together.

"weldor" = person operating the inanimate "welder" system.
