Anyone ever swap in a Buick 231 V6 ?

Post by chunstone »

Just wondering, not trying to start a riot, No need to answer if you think it could be done, only if it has been done and who did it. A guy here has an engine for sale for sale.
Thanks.

You will need the BPO (Buick/Pontiac/Oldsmobile) transmision to go with it, a chevy 350/400 won't fit. Is this the 'oddfire' Buick motor or the 'newer' re-designed one?

If VGs and Jet-Fires can be swapped in I no reason not to.

Why?

Given the realities of the 231, I have to imagine you haven't even Googled this gem of automotive history. Produced during perhaps the worst time in automotive history (1975) what you get for your 500+ pounds and completely custom swap is...

"Due to difficulties with the new fuel economy and emissions standards, the engine produced just 110 hp (82 kW)."

Yeehaw.

Laughing at the orangutan not the motor! Don't know anything about them. (or much else either)

In it's defense.... one of it's incarnations was used in the Buick Gran National and cranked about 300hp. Modified they could be double that and could pull a 3,800 lb car down the quarter in sub 11 seconds. True they were no roaring hell in plain jane but a good solid reliable motor. Over 28 million were made, that's millions. They weighed under 400 lbs. and that's not much more than a VG I think??

Ha ha... just saw that Merlin.

I briefly thought of putting one in my truck. I found the Buick 4.1 V6 used in the FWD Cadillac but scrapped the idea. Had a 4bbl electric carb, gave it and all the parts to a Buick guy.
