510 Rally car pics

It looks like I will have access to a bunch of killer Rally pics, mostly 510's, but I think some of the other cars will be cool too! This collection of pics will be fed to me by Terry Palmer, of Michigan, who ran with the best of 'em in the 60's, 70's and into the early 80's. Many of the photo's were taken by Bryan McMahon. I will add them as I get them. Enjoy!!

BTW, if any of you have any 510 rally car pics (or other cool classic rally car pics), please do not hesitate to post them here on this thread! I would NEVER consider that thread-jacking. That's why this thread was started.......to share it!

Looks like in the 3rd picture the car is equipped with an on the fly air pressure adjustment system. Super cool.

Actually Duke, that's an external drive odometer - probably a Halda. It was common for guys to hook these up in similar fashions. The fancy guys would spend the time and money to drill a small hole down the center of the spindle and hook up the drive cable to the dust cover, this avoided ripping the unit off if you were to catch a branch, snow bank or some other inanimate or magnetic object like a tree or a large rock!

Interesting Byron. I does seem that the drive cord would be a bit exposed to damage. Awesome stuff, I love learning new things.

I've looked thru many of these pics already, and I am completely blown away by WHAT was rally'd back in the day! I had NO IDEA!! My buddy has a scrapbook full of more pics that I don't think he has even scanned yet. You die hard guys are gonna love it.................

I really got a kick out of the picture of the Corvette. Never thought I would see one of those in rally form!

The Corvette guy was from Detroit.......maybe I will do some digging, as these things sometimes turn up. Not that I'm a huge 'Vette fan, but that thing is killer! From what I've gathered, there were lots of Ford, GM & Chrysler employees, like engineers etc etc, who raced in all forms, including rallying. I suppose rallying was popular cuz of the winter climate in this region. There will hopefully be some very interesting pics to come.

Wow!! Here's a great movie/TV clip from the 1973 POR (Press On Regardless) in Michigan. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOU DIAL-UP PEOPLE!! It is 25 minutes long, so grab a beer and some munchies! You will see many of the cars above (and below) in action, including Terry Palmer (with Jim Walker in the Volvo), who has graciously made these still pictures in this thread available.
