Re: New from Sunny South Africa
Nice to see it moving forward! When you are creative with fab, it is so easy to get side tracked! Plus, having 15 attack points on the project does slow it down overall. I have a hard time focusing, always going down some side road! Nice work.

Hi Heinrich, Where in SA are you from? I also in in SA in Cape Town area. How is your build coming along?
Where are you getting your spares from? I am looking for a handbrake now. I dont think I will find one from a Datsun.
I may have to look for something else.

Stephen.
i am in gauteng, centurion.
so a bit far from you.
i have an "in dash" handbrake should you be interested.
build is coming on slowly.got a new turbo with external waste gate to fit, almost got all the bits together to make the fuel tank EFI.then new fuel line's.
then fill all the unnecessary holes in the body/engine bay.and off to paint.
hope to take a week's leave in February to work on the car.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
so the week leave in February never happened.
fitted the new turbo and waste gate, will take it to work to get welded.
also used part of a Nissan pickup truck fuel tank and started the efi mod on my tank and updated the filler as well.
then the engine came out again to hopefully start fitting the shell on the rotisserie.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
So i Fixed the front of the frame rails (one side for the 2nd time).
one step closer to rotisserie.
tried to add some strength, both the replacement pieces as well as the angled pieces that holds the inside nut are made of 2mm steel.
cleaned as far as possible inside with a wire brush, the rust treated everything then painted with zink spary, this should hold up OK.
warhammer simulator

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
over the last week/weekend i managed to start making my "in tank surge tank" .
has a pump to fill the cylindrical tank from the fuel tank witch houses the high pressure pump that goes to the engine.
not 100% finished but you get the idea.
then over the weekend, i wire brushed the whole front end after i fixed all the little things that was still wrong.
then painted it with a rust converter and finally primed the nose.
seeing a part of the car that is not rusted and not black etch primer anymore makes me feel quite nice.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
some more progress.
removed the old chassis legs, remebered how much i hate drilling out spot welds .
had some new pieces bent up, welded them in
welded in some braces
primed the underside and inside the car after painting everything with rust converter
note the extra/new seat supports i made and installed.
had the seats bolted to the floor but it felt a bit flimsy, feels nice and solid now.
also added a battery box.
also fitted the fuel lines with brackets i copied from project binky.
10 times hareder than i expected it to go, very hard to get neat.
but for the moment i will tick that off as "done".
as far as i can think(for now at least) the floor section is done.next would be to prime the roof, doors , bonnet and boot.
then hopefully off to paint.
has anyone used the under dash handbrake hole in the firewall on a right hand drive car to take the engine loom into the car?
it seems like it would be a good place.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
some progress.
painted an old door with a sample and decided that it looks good.
seam sealed, stone chipped and painted the under side of the car.
i want to use fender mirrors but can not get myself to spend what 2nd hand fender mirrors go for.
so i got a broken LH mirror stand, had it 3d scanned, then made a mirror image and 3d printed a set.
finsihed the with some high build primer and painted them.
next i glue'd in some screws and started making a silicone mold to hopefully be able to cast the out of polyurethane for the car, that i will then use with some cheap aftermarket bullet mirrors.
my friendly father in law started making adapters for the new injectors, and drilling the fuel rail.
also decided to go E Throttle, here you se a 2.0 liter hilux throttle body, drilled out the bolt hole and it bolted to my SR manifold.
my friendly father in law also made new bushes for all the hinges and i am fixing/putting them back together .
hope to get the car ready for the panel beaters in the next week or 2(depending on work schedule)

Wow! Moving right along. Won't be long now and you're going to be onto final assembly.
Very nice and thorough job you are doing.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
Crank angle sensor mounted, think it is a BMW cam sensor
Fuel rail finished and bolted up, i will have this anodized.
all the hinges re bushed and fixed up.welded all the holes and re drilled them, then i "built up" the worn bits of the hinges by welding on little blobs to "adjust" the locking of the hinges in the open position.
just another shot of everything in the engine bay
had to notch out a piece of the bonnet support to get the fuel rail to clear, it worked out ok.
had to make this plate and added an adjusted pulley/belt tension-er (made by my friendly father in law) as well as an idler ( i thing comes off off d4d hilux) to be able to effectively use the alternator to adjust belt tension.
as the car sits ready to go to the panel beaters once i pull the engine out again.
i will try and wire the engine while it is out of the car while i wait for the panel beaters.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
It midterm strange to not have your car sitting in its usual spot!
Now time to panic about all the ‘other bits’ while the cars away, making use of your new found space while the body work and paint is being done.
Exciting times, keep us posted.

Re: New from Sunny South Africa
very strange indeed, found myself walking into my workshop just to turn around and leave again, thinking i have nothing to do.
i will tend to all the rest as far as i can without the car.need to get the oil/water lines sorted on the turbo as well as wire the engine as well i can outside the car.
also have a couple of projects for the wife that is LOOONG overdue.
will definitely keep you posted.
