SR/KA Mounts by Mckinney

Post by grimlid »

https://www.mckinneymotorsports.com/pro ... +mount+kit

Looking at sending in a core to these guys to make my first step towards the ka swap.

I havent found any reviews on these yet after a bit of a search.

Mostly curious if the flip and fabricate cross member would cost nearly the same and look about half as cool.
Also is it easier just to custom fab the oil pan and sump?

The tranny mount seem awkward but also looks cool.

Any feed back would be appreciated... thanks

Can't speak for their xmember s either trans or front but I wouldn't waste your money on the engine mounts/isolators - I read it from a few people bought em anyway ... But not gonna use em... No good motor mounts or isolators for this swap which is surprising... Gotta go custom or make the traditional 510/620 mount work... Anyone who says its an easy bolt in swap is lying... That o

I located this old thread on ratsun.
Seems there was some negative feedback on the tranny mount, I expected it would be a risk of contact with speed bumps ect...
The crossmember was apparently well constructed though but some problem with motor mounts cracking....
Seems the guy is tough to deal with also.

I tried out their motor mounts and hated them. THey are way too stiff and all the engine vibrations came through . I used their Radiator and intercooler set up which was good . I also used the CX racing manifold that he sells on there and it was garbage.

Although I didn't do it myself, the mount can easily be flipped and all you need is the stock motor mounts. I did this on my KA build and it worked fine, to date there doesn't seem to be any excess vibrations etc but I've only ever ran it in my garage, not driving around. If you have a buddy that can weld or take it to a fab shop this is an hours work and looks good if you clean it up after. Plus, you don't see 90% of the mount since the motor sits over it, unless you want your car to live on a hoist.

One thing to note on the KA swap is that you will have to significantly trim your brackets that hold the bottom of the trans to the motor in order to clear the steering rack, as well as delete EGR and other emissions stuff if you want to have the motor sit further back. The orange line sway bars from Futofab fit perfect.

To McKinney, I've dealt with them for my 280Z RB26 swap project to get conversion parts. In some cases it was a bit painful, but in other cases the guy has a ton of helpful info and means well. I just think they are really busy and so customer service is a struggle at times.

Thanks,
I did go the flip and weld. Actually nearly ready to install the KA.
I thought the Mckinney mount looked cool and the the round stock seemed really solid but the negative feedback on the customer service was enough to deter me from the purchase.

Reawakening this thread...

It seems the Mckinney mounts don't exist anymore, but I have read that you can actually just use OEM 510 mounts.

So it goes:

KA24de Engine
Upper Bracket from KA mount
510 motor mount (dropped to the lower holes)
Crossmember tower mount (flipped crossmember)

Is that right?!

Yes, although the engine sits to far forward it will work. Most guys just send it as is. If I was to do another KA build I would make mounts to move the engine back a bit.

Thank you guys! I feel like I keep running into the same few people as I do all of my research for my first swap and I really appreciate all the support, even on some of these 15 year old threads!
